Publisher's Summary

I hungered to be seen.

There were three things I knew about Capo Macchiavello:

  • He was gorgeous.
  • He was reclusive.
  • He was considered one of New York's most savage animals.

And he wanted me as his wife. A simple arrangement - you do for me, I do for you. Nothing owed, no expectations. Except for one: never leave.

Life was never that simple, though. By the age of 21, I was parentless, jobless, and homeless, and I had come to learn the hard way that nothing was ever free. Even kindness comes with strings.

Capo might've been the only man to ever see me, but I had made a vow to myself: I would never owe anyone anything. Most of all, the man I called boss.

I killed to stay hidden.

Mariposa Flores thought she owed nothing to no one, but she owed everything...to me, the ghost the world had once called the Machiavellian Prince of New York.

Machiavellian is the first of three books set in the savage world of the Gangsters of New York series.

Gangsters at their best!

Machiavellian (Gangsters of New York – Book 1) – Audio Book Book written by: Bella Di Corte Audio Book Narrated by: Kae Denino & Armen Taylor “We were once the rulers of the world.” I had read the ebook earlier this year and was hooked on these characters and this story. Being able to listen to the audio version, WOW! The narrators Kae Denino and Armen Taylor gave life to Mariposia and Cappo, along with the other characters that make this story what it is. Magnificent! When listening, you are there with them, with Cappo at the beginning then at his rebirth if you would. With Mari when she is at her lowest point yet still she pushes on, my regard for her growing in each chapter. You are immersed in this story from beginning to end! I always find with audio books the narrators are the ones to take the written words of the books author and bring them to reality. This is exactly what happened. You laugh with Mari, you cry with her, like your beside her, supporting her. The same holds true with Cappo we can hear it in his words how he cares for her, would die protecting her. If you have not read the book and are just listening, it will give you the ability to appreciate how Bella Di Corte’s writing is turned into a live version of the Gangsters of New York. The families, the characters and how everything plays out from beginning to end with the most adorable “Pease momma,” at the end and the knowledge that hopefully we will continue to hear from Cappo and Mari as the Gangsters of New York continue to hold the city in their grips.

I LOVED.. LOVED.. LOVED IT

This suspenseful Mafia romance was addictive from the start.. it’s a layered and long journey as Mariposa, a feisty but damaged twenty-one yr old who has finally hit rock-bottom, grabs a mysterious lifeline and changes her life completely. Her path, fate and destiny crosses paths with thirty-nine yr old Capo Macchiavello who lives for revenge and plots in the shadows as he waits to strike the dynasty that nearly destroyed him. But his butterfly will give him something to live for. I don’t want to give any spoilers because the intrigue and depth of the story is best experienced live as their rollercoaster unfolds. Well-written threads weave in and out, secrets takes time to be exposed and fully revealed, chemistry slowly and deliciously burns and friends and family dynamics are heartwarmingly forged and found. Twists, angst and drama are part of the climactic thrills, the sex scenes don’t drown the story, the simmering romance grows in tender sweet stages and the deep love and connection was always there. Nearly fifteen hours of story and the plot-line kept me intrigued and invested in their conflicting ideals, their lifestyles, their emotional struggles, their damaged pasts, their truths, their touching romance and the very real danger that would devastate. Vengeance, loyalty, betrayal and love are all brilliantly paced as the homeless innocent butterfly and the lonely alpha protective possessive wolf find each other and claim their destinies. Good character development too. Told in dual POV with a HEA ending and it’s a good introduction to the Gangsters of New York series.. but could definitely be listened to as a stand-alone. Armen Taylor is a new to me narrator and his sexy talented voice fit the damaged hero perfectly and brought the story to life.. especially the Italian swoony sentiments. But I must admit Kae Denino’s narration took a wee bit of getting used to.. however, as the story progressed, I slowly settled down with her voice and could live with it. Worth a credit? A wonderful, well-written, well-balanced, weighty romance that‘s full of passion and feels and doesn’t rush to reveal its hidden gems.. and yes, IMO, it’s definitely creditworthy.

I'm in love with Armen Taylor's voice!!

Man Armen Taylor was perfect casting in this one. I adore his deep rumble that is perfect for Capo. I also adore when he speaks Italian. SO amazing. This was my first listen from Kae Denino, while she isn't my favorite, there were times her inflections grated on my nerves, but that was more a personal preference. She did well portraying the innocence and pain of her character. The story was written well, I loved the twists and turns, the secrets lurking around every corner. Great production all around!

omg that voice!!!

the fact that the male voice actor is raspy and quiet when he has dialog and then louder when its just his inner voice because of the characters Injury, that little detail made this book for me sooo good its a perfect mafia romance book!!!!

Machiavellian

I was so excited to start this book but I had a really difficult time getting into it. There are a lot of very favorable reviews so I will try again at a later date and, at that time, update the review. Kae Denino did an OK job with the narration while Armen Taylor did a great job. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT

The female narrator ruined this for me. This story was great. I’m going to fast forward and listen to the male narrator to get to the end. She pronounces Rocco wrong through the entire book. Who edited this book?!? Why DIDNT someone tell her it’s ROCCO not rowco😡🤬😡🤬. She is supposed to be Italian! NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. It was just too bad for me I will return this because I would never listen to it again. Her male voice sounds like a troll from another world!!! THIS BOOK COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT!!!! Male narrator was very good first time I heard him I think he will be great if he keeps going.

Suspenseful Mafia Romance!

This is the first book in the Gangsters of New York Series, a Mafia Romance. This was my first Bella Di Corte's book. Capo (Mac) and Mariposa's story is intricate, slow paced, captivating, and suspenseful. Capo is dark, dominant, and powerful. Mariposa is a wonderful character. She is strong, determined, talkative, and funny. The storyline is intriguing. Kae Denino and Armen Taylor did an amazing job with the narration. I love their voice together. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Marauder. If you like mafia romance, this one is for you.

FEMALE NARRATOR RUINS IT FOR ME...

The story it's self is pretty cliché. Add to it a female narrator with a very grating voice and lousy performance and is a huge DNF for me at just 20%.

Outstanding Audible Book !!

New to me author and narrators and almost 15 hours long, not always a good combination. In this case, it's a fantastic combination. The time flew by as the story flowed so smoothly. This story has all of the elements of a Mafia story. There are assassinations, betrayals, danger, family loyalty, hot sexual scenes, lies, secrets, and compassion. The character and plot development are superb. Mariposa has lived a very tough life in her 21 years, but she's a survivor. At first she had a guardian angel. Mac has lived a violent life for most of his 39 years. They will face many dangers that will make their love stronger. However, Mac harbors a secret that can destroy their relationship. Both narrators give the characters believable voices. Mac has a deep dominant voice. Mariposa has a younger determined yet vulnerable voice. These two voice artists put so much emotion into their deliveries that the story comes to life. What a wonderful pleasure to listen to them! I highly recommend this Audible book.
