Publisher's Summary

GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK • A soul-stirring novel about what we choose to keep from our past and what we choose to leave behind, from the New York Times bestselling author of Wish You Were Here and the bestselling author of She’s Not There

Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business.

Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

And for just a short while, these new beginnings are exactly what Olivia and Lily need. Their paths cross when Asher falls for the new girl in school, and Lily can’t help but fall for him, too. With Ash, she feels happy for the first time. Yet at times, she wonders if she can trust him completely. . . .

Then one day, Olivia receives a phone call: Lily is dead, and Asher is being questioned by the police. Olivia is adamant that her son is innocent. But she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge the flashes of his father’s temper in Ash, and as the case against him unfolds, she realizes he’s hidden more than he’s shared with her.

Mad Honey is a riveting novel of suspense, an unforgettable love story, and a moving and powerful exploration of the secrets we keep and the risks we take in order to become ourselves.

Amazing book, until the end.

We loved it, until the last few pages. We felt it was easy and convenient, and wanted a “Holly, where the heck did that come from” like the surprise in court with Lily. Very much enjoyed it.

Go in blind!!!!

This was an incredibly interesting story! I love Jodi Picoult, so I didn’t research this book much before purchasing it, and I suggest you do the same. I don’t think I would have necessarily picked this one knowing the story, since I don’t know much about this topic… but WOW did I learn a lot and really got attached to these characters! One of my new favourites. The narrators were also amazing!

I found it interesting to listen to the authors notes at the end. I have absolutely no idea which wrote what. the storytelling was seamless.

Great way to educate about trans people

Jodi Picoult didn't disappoint. She has such a great way of bringing controversial topics to light. My only question is: what was the significance of Dierk bringing his essay by???

Enlightening

Like all Picoult novels, the reader emerges older, wiser, kinder and more understanding of people they might have given little thought to. She’s a gem and this book does a great service by putting characters to these “imaginary” people.

Fantastic, eye-opening story!

Bravo to the authors for this wonderful, beautifully woven story. Mission accomplished on getting at least this cisgender person (and I’m sure many many more!) to better understand the transgender world.
Thank you!

Worth Every Minute of Your Time

I enjoyed this novel more than any other for listened to in a long time. The characters are interesting, and you feel there happiness, sadness, confusing and pain. The plot moves along at a nice rate, keeping you entertained in all the right places. The story pieces come together beautifully to tell a tragic story. I enjoyed the narration. Great book.

Agenda pushed too hard on this

Normally I very much love this author, but I was very upset about how much the trans narrative was pushed. From puberty blockers at a very young age being a 'blessing', to using terms for biologically born women as 'Sis'.....it gets to be too much at times.
The story also tends to drag on in parts where the point of the chapter is missed with over telling.
I have listened to over 100 different audiobooks and this one actually made me skip through because of these two issues.
The storyline overall is good.....it can just be longer than needed to at parts.
