À propos de cet audio

The complete series in a single offering!

Damien’s life was simple:

Train hard, follow orders, and never question why. But after a mission to infiltrate an enemy territory goes horribly wrong, he wakes up in the body of a spoiled noble mage from the very world he’s been taught to hate.

Magic? He’s never touched it, and now everyone expects him to master it like a pro.

Trying to survive in an elite magic academy surrounded by classmates who seem to know far more than he does, would be hard enough—yet Damien’s real identity as an assassin is the least of his problems. Between botched spells, awkward encounters, and people calling him by a name that isn’t his, surviving magic school might actually be more dangerous than his old job.

Can Damien bluff his way through magic class, deal with aristocratic drama, and keep his secret from getting out? Or will he set a new record for the worst student ever?

This book is fun! The dialogue isn't bad, the characters seem interesting, and the world building is all right. The narrators are both excellent. I enjoyed listening to it. The main character is trapped in the body of the spoiled, incompetent son of the lord he was sent to kill. He has to keep up the charade that he's him, which includes attending a magical college - even though he doesn't know one bit of magic. He comes to the realization that his former master was just using him - and meanwhile, he's learning to enjoy his new lifestyle, realizing that he was truly alone and ascetic before. It's an engaging plot!

But the author keeps making the main character even more overpowered. So he's a top assassin...no, wait, he actually hides that he has all four essences, something that nobody has ever had in history. Oh, and he's learned a secret art. But now he's trapped in the body of a soft, lazy, incompetent mage... but through hard work and exercise, he becomes fit and strong in a week, with women swooning over his muscles, able to beat the world record high jump in a school competition! Okay. But that's okay, because physical arts were his strong suit, and he's in the body of an incompetent mage, having to pretend he has magic by using his other abilities. That's actually pretty cool! Until he figures out how to become a mage by...reading a book. In one day. And suddenly becomes better than the elite mages in his school. Less than a week later, he... develops a unique magic that nobody's ever come up with before. And uses it to win a sports game. Oh, and he also gets visions of the future that nobody else seems to, for no apparent reason, which ALSO breaks the laws of magic. And the elite girl at school who hates him so much? It's because he broke her heart, but she still loves him. It's just. Too. Much. Eventually it just feels like the main character is perfect in every way, and that means nothing is a challenge for him - and that means I stop caring about him. Which is a shame.

But on the other hand: an engaging plot, good writing, great narration, and three (short) books for one credit? I don't regret buying this.

Annoyingly OP, but fun
