Publisher's Summary

The perfect life becomes the perfect nightmare in a twisting novel of psychological suspense from #1 USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Jaynes…

Dr. Daniel Winters is living a fairy-tale life. He has a beachfront home in Malibu, a career as a respected pediatrician at a thriving Los Angeles practice, and a gorgeous new wife, Mia. For a man whose past was rife with mental illness, addiction, and thoughts of suicide, it seems too good to be true.

Then Daniel learns that a fellow pediatrician and his family were found slaughtered in their home. It’s just the first chip in the facade of Daniel’s perfect life. Little by little, everything starts to fall away. At work, his career becomes at risk when he’s asked to remain silent about a dangerous new drug. At home, Mia has gone from an affectionate newlywed to a mysterious woman carefully hiding secrets - and possibly a lover.

Then, another doctor is found dead, and as Mia’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious, Daniel begins to wonder: Is paranoia getting the best of him...or has his fairy-tale life become a nightmare worse than he could have ever imagined?

Anti-vaxxer’s dream

I can’t even describe how much I disliked this book.
It is based solely on the premise that 99% of doctors are bought and paid for the “big pharma” and have absolutely no scruples or ethics.
Additionally, just as unbelievable is the lining up up the vaccine story EXACTLY with the story of the doc’s new wife and her secret.
Absolutely stupid book.
I’m so bothered by this on behalf of good family doctors and pedestrians everywhere.

UNPUTDOWNABLE!!!!

This book was a totally unexpected surprise. I have only listened to one other book by Jennifer Jaynes and it wasn't for me. So, I was hesitant about this one but found I could borrow it for FREE. When I borrowed the kindle unlimited edition. So with nothing new in my library I thought why not?
This is one of those books I COULD NOT PUT DOWN!!!!
I was riveted to this story from the time I began listening until it ended.
The book is told by the two main protagonists, Daniel Winters (pediatrician) and his wife Mia.
Daniel is being forced to give children he sees in his practice a new immunity booster injection for upper respiratory infections. The drug has more side effects then what is being told to parents as the manufacturer is suppressing those facts. Reporting side effects is discouraged and a few doctors have "committed suicide" who had tried to raise public awareness. There's a lot of money to be made if this drug gets put on the schedule for school and daycare requirements.
Meanwhile, Daniel's wife Mia has some secrets. He's the "perfect" husband but is she the perfect wife? Because of Daniel's suspicions about what his wife is hiding m, he makes some bad decisions.
At the same time all this is going on you hear the story of a mother whose daughter is a recipient of this new drug and it's effects on her. And you wonder why the founder of the medical practice insisted that Daniel keeps pushing this on his patients even after Daniel confronted him with his facts and concerns.
Jane Oppenheimer does an outstanding job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Seems to be pushing an anti-vaccine agenda

I wanted to like this book. The plot was interesting and the ending definitely caught me off guard although it left a few loose ends. That being said, the book very obviously seemed to have an anti-vaccine stance. The plot revolves around a new vaccine for the common cold that big pharma is covering up adverse reactions to. I could get behind this plot point, but the narrative eventually starts taking shots at all vaccines and questioning their legitimacy.
Vaccines save lives and the author clearly does not have a medical background as seen by some errors in the medical continuity in the book. I was not a fan.

Entertaining at points, but disappointing

I listen to more audible books than I can count, and am always looking for great authors/stories. This book initially had promise, but there was no where near enough detail or info re: the main topic of the story. Unfortunately, this might be the worst ending of all the books I've read or listened to. It seems as if the author just said "ok, times up, I'll just end it here." there is no conclusion, no wrap up - it's like so many movies now, they just end and I assume they think we should imagine the ending and that makes it interesting or smart. I find It to be neither. I thought the narration was fine, and again, the story was interesting at points, but ultimately falls incredibly flat. I'm confused at all of the amazing reviews. I base so many purchases on reviews and am really disappointed that I relied on them for this book. That's why I'm leaving this review, just a caution.

WHOA....

I can't imagine how I could review this book without any spoilers. It held my interest, and the narration was very good, but overall it's a very dark story

Great psychological thriller!

The other four Jennifer Jaynes novels in my Audible library have been variable in quality. I do especially like her Stranger series especially Book 2. Malice is an outstanding psychological thriller with excellent narration.

Completely predictable

Completely predictable storyline. Don’t waste your time on this book, it will be hours of your life wasted. If I could give the story less than 1 star I would.

This should make you think

Wow I can't believe it took me so long to getting around to reading this book. It was amazing, this book touches on so many issues that should be a concern to us all, and makes it all so much more disturbing and thought provoking at the same time. Give this book a chance and you won't be sorry.

Anti-vax propaganda

I just know someone is going to read this book and feel even more validated in their self-righteous opposition to vaccines. If you enjoy this story, super - just remember that it’s fiction. 🙄
