Publisher's Summary

A shocking expos on the life and death of political peace activist Mary Pinchot Meyer, whose relationship with John F. Kennedy sheds new light on the circumstances surrounding his assassination.

Who really murdered Mary Pinchot Meyer in the fall of 1964? Why was there a mad rush by CIA counterintelligence chief James Angleton to immediately locate and confiscate her diary? What in that diary was so explosive and revealing? Had Mary Meyer finally put together the intricate pieces of a bewildering, conspiratorial mosaic of information that revealed a plan to assassinate her lover, President Kennedy, with the trail ultimately ending at the doorstep of the Central Intelligence Agency? And was it mere coincidence that Mary Meyer was killed less than three weeks after the release of the Warren Commission Report?

Based on years of painstaking research and interviews, much of it revealed here for the first time, author Peter Janney traces some of the most important events and influences in the life of Mary Pinchot Meyer - including her first meeting with Jack Kennedy at the Choate School during the winter of 1936, her explorations with psychedelic drugs, and finally how she supported her secret lover, the president of the United States, as he turned away from the Cold War toward the pursuit of world peace. As we approach the fiftieth anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination - and Mary Meyer's - Mary's Mosaic adds to our understanding of why both took place.

This edition has been updated and revised with a significant postscript that focuses on Meyer's alleged assassin, who the author finally located and confronted in person in August 2012, as well as the ongoing saga of Janney's attempt to reopen the case based on new evidence.

A CIA Coup D'état in America? Why Not?

The American government is known for its regime changes starting in the 19th century and continuing into the present, for American corporate profits in the banana, pineapple, cane sugar, fossil fuel industries etc,, so why wouldn't the untouchable CIA pull a Coup D'état in America to keep the war machine in Vietnam going or to maintain mafia profits in Cuba? Did JFK become an obstacle to military and intelligence war mongers who sought to feed the military industrial complex that Pres Eisenhower warned about?

The author is the son of one of the CIA players, Wistar Janney. In full transparency, he starts off with the disclaimer about his childhood/adolescent crush on Mary, who'd been his neighbor and part of the CIA's social circle. I felt some apprehension about the book but... he covers the subsequent material without such sentimentality.

The book examines not only Mary's alleged relationship with JFK, but the WWII background of her husband, CIA Cord Meyer, JFK, and other powerful officials, It gets into players that drank themselves to oblivion like Jim Angleton, who allegedly stole Mary's real diary which contained entries about her time with the president. What better group of people to head the American gov't and security than untreated battle fatigued WWII war vets and stressed out espionage agents!

With this baggage in tow, the CIA operatives conspired with various factions (Miami mafia, Cuban dissidents...) to assassinate Kennedy and then others, including Lee Harvey Oswald and Mary Pinchot Meyer. Why not? If the Cuban Missile Crisis is an example, it was no secret that JFK couldn't control the CIA. To make matters worse, he didn't share the same goals. He even had the nerve to correspond with Soviet leader Khrushchev in what potentially might have turned into a peaceful agreement. Added to that, the allegation that Mary had an ongoing affair with JFK during the months (years?) leading up to his assassination may have upset her ex, Cord, who never got over their divorce. We learn that years before, JFK was one of the guys jockeying for a spot on her dance card while Cord was in the picture.

The CIA held no qualms about eating its own or American citizens in general. Did they defenestrate CIA scientist Frank Olson in 1953 or did he jump while in an LSD haze? What about all the lives they destroyed when it dosed unsuspecting American citizens? The org answered to nobody externally for its actions so why not get rid of a president who didn't behave the way you wanted him to? Same goes for his alleged mistress who apparently knew a few things and was going to talk. Raymond Crump Jr allegedly ended up being the patsy for Mary's murder although he was acquitted at trial.

Before listening to the book, I thought the title, Mary's Mosaic, was odd; now that I've finished it, I understand it's fitting as there were so many parts that come together to understand the context of her murder. Was the CIA behind it? Does military contractor stock value go up in times of war?

It's a good listen; I enjoyed playing it chapter by chapter when I had time. It was quite sobering to realize that the American leaders of the Greatest Generation were just as scarred and flawed as my grandparents who also lived through those decades. I appreciated seeing the human side of the CIA agents, instead of the usual ominous CIA entity that is nowadays relegated to a one-liner about regime changes.

Very enlightening, well researched! Great listen!

This book gives many great insights into the life of Mary Meyer and her contections with JFK . Written by a family friend who new many of the CIA players who were likely involved not only in her military style execution but also likely involved in the military style assassination of JFK.

It is a point of view from facts I can not check.

Very very nice to know about assorted back stories. Wish i were a fly on the wall JFK was killed murdered .. Since he promised to break the C.I.A. into a thousand pieces you know they served some interest other then the country or its peoples interest. He would have stopped the Israelis from getting the bomb. And break lock step with the banksters in printing 4 billion USA two dollar bills not paying the leeches or parasite FED. Made some think something must be done to stop this from happening again. Or a clever man could see JFK as a peoples president unlike ALL others before him. A clever man could see he was in dangerous waters.

Deep dive into CIA corruption and murder

I bought the ebook @ 3 years ago, but struggled to get through it. Then I decided to get the audio book version. I found that it helped to listen and read at the same time.
Excellent book about JFK's assassination, and Mary Meyer's as well. I liked reading about the disturbing projects run by the CIA, like MK-ULTRA and Mockingbird. Narration was perfect! Excellent quality. The author did an excellent job on the book.

Sickening

Humans, not so sapient. Given the conditions, what animals we can be! This is probably the MO for many governments across this sick earth.
