They slept for hundreds of years, dreaming of a new home in the Andromeda galaxy. When finally they awake, their dreams of peace are shattered. These colonists - turian, salarian, asari, human, and more - face an uncharted galaxy and threats beyond understanding.

The Nexus is the core from which the colonists will explore their new home. Yet even before the arks arrive, the massive space station sustains critical damage. The entire mission is placed in jeopardy, and security director Sloane Kelly must reassert order while racing to identify the nature of the threat that faces them.

If she fails, the Andromeda Initiative could crumble.

Enjoyed very much

Very meaty story if you are a fan of ME and like to learn background story it’s awesome. It’s a bit of a slow build though so it’s not for everyone but I liked seeing how it all goes to hell, what choices lead to the outcome at the end. I love mass effect content so it was a easy one for me but if your just casual might not be for you

Don't get your hopes up

Much like the game the characters are juvenile and shallow, the story is weak, and the writing is one-dimensional. Regardless of which character the chapter is focused on, they all behave exactly the same. The characters are comparable to a group of 16 year olds with bad attitudes given too much responsibility and expected to act like space faring adults.
Thankfully Fryda Wolff is a good narrator and I'm hoping that will help me reach the end fast.

narrator ruined it for me

I was unable to find myself being able to get drawn into the story due to the narrator unfortunately it wasn't for me.despite being a longtime fan of the franchise and other books.

Great story.

This was a great story. I loved learning more about the mutany, and what when on before your pathfinder shows up. The only thing I wish I did differently was finish this story before playing move of Mass Effect Andromeda.

the story...just....such stupid whiny crewmates

i loved Wolff as Sarah Ryder. not so much as the whole cast. She didn't really change tone or volume throughout the novel. she's very pleasant to listen to though. But, if only the story had a more thorough editing. The reason for the uprising was.....ugh. Stupid, bitchy crew. "Why are you rationing us? Why do you want us to go back into stasis? why is there no food?? it's all the leadership's fault! kill everyone rawr!"

I hate that plotline. I expected more, BioWare.

Filled in Important Gaps

Added much needed dimensions to some really pivotal characters from the game. I really appreciated the focus on the dysfunctional triumvirate composed of Tann, Kelly and Addison. It's a pretty realistic representation I think of how people react to crisis after having loosely banded together over the idealistic vision of a single charismatic leader.

Worth giving a chance

having gone into Andromeda blind as a fem Ryder I was so happy and shocked to discover that her voice actress actually did this. I really love how she paces herself when speaking like the other milkyway races and wish more game books used their voice cast for projects like this.

if you liked the game (which isn't the cool thing I'm told) you really should give this a listen. It's nice to get the perspective of the year before we the player collide with the scourge ourselves. gives more insight into Sloane especially.

Better than the game

I wasn't expecting much to be honest but in the end I was pleasantly surprised.

Slow crescendo

the overall story is good, but slow. you have good surprises, will cheer forsome characters, hate anothers... it's nice. however, the story grows very slowly. in some part of the book i started to feel claustrophobic... and, suddenly i felt like the characters of the book.

the narrator does the job. but, after listening to some audiobooks already, i felty she lacked passion in some parts. i'd have liked to hear more than a monotonous narration with hints of feeling.

also, i liked that the writer used some game powers and references. there's no hightexh words or jargons. i felt that the book could have used some here and there.

its a good book if u like mass effect and sci-fi.
