À propos de cet audio
On a mysterious errand for the Pathfinder Society, Count Varian Jeggare and his hellspawn bodyguard, Radovan, journey to the distant land of Tian Xia, on the far side of the world. When disaster forces him to take shelter in a warrior monastery, "Brother" Jeggare finds himself competing with the disciples of Dragon Temple as he unravels a royal mystery. Meanwhile Radovan - trapped in the body of a devil and held hostage by the legendary Quivering Palm attack - must serve a twisted master by defeating the land's deadliest champions and learning the secret of slaying an immortal foe. Together with an unlikely army of beasts and spirits, the two companions must take the lead in an ancient conflict that will carry them through an exotic land, all the way to the Gates of Heaven and Hell and a final confrontation with the nefarious Master of Devils!

Unfortunately, the book also includes Goblins that use fart attacks during combat for some reason. Gross can be infuriating: providing well-scripted plotting mixed with cringe-worthy events.
Bottom line: Your 10-year-old kid will *love* this book. There's plenty here for adult Fantasy Fans, too - but I was left a little bit disappointed by the often straight-up silly story elements.
As to presentation: I have become a fan of reader Paul Boehmer. He very occasionally betrays a little bit of boredom - sounding like he's reading a text sitting open on his lap - but his tone is otherwise appropriately overall lighthearted.. but with seriousness when called for. Boehmer's diction, timbre, and cadence are impressive (he's a true professional), but it's his voice-acting that deserves the most praise. The narrator's prissy-ish Jeggare, somewhat growly Radovan Virnholt, and Asian-flavored Monk interpretations are a little stereotypical but incredibly lifelike.
Altogether, 'Master of Devils' is best suited for kids aged 8-14 who are being introduced to the Fantasy genre [note: including a couple of mild expletives (e.g "bulls**t")] - but the 6/10-star effort was a fun way to spend a couple of afternoons for a 54-year-old like me, too.
[Note: if you've ever watched that TV show 'Deadliest Warrior' and observed a hypothetical fight between, say, a knife-wielding Apache Brave & an ancient Greek/Spartan phalanx fighter.. then you understand the adrenaline-fuelled entertainment inherent in the author's match-ups (Infernal-Demon Rogue vs 'Drunken Master'-styled martial artist, for example). There are monsters, too - Basilisks, Nagas, etc. - but the combat among humanoid races is almost worth the price of admission on its own.]
Somewhat Sophomoric
