AU TEST

In the struggle between warring parents, who will protect the child?

Garry Hartshorn and Softie Monaghan were never love's young dream. Not even on their wedding day.

Softie was sophisticated, a career woman, who owned a nice apartment overlooking St Kilda Beach. Garry had a few rough edges, plus one failed marriage and an assortment of jobs under his belt. But Softie's body clock was ticking, and Garry wanted children....

So they got married and produced the only thing they ever had in common: Matilda.

Now, two years later, their golden-haired child is at the centre of a bitter divorce and custody battle. Both parents insist that her well-being is the only thing they care about. Yet, in truth, Matilda was always the one most likely to become lost.

I've read two other books by Caroline Overington and found them to be ok (not amazing). This book ,however, I really loved. The plot really captivated me in from beginning to end. I liked all the characters and found them all to be quite realistic and relatable. Although there is some disturbing subject matter presented in this book, it is addressed in a manner that makes it bareable to read about. Additonally, the narrator used for this performance was excellent!

the first book by Caroline Overington I loved

Great story.

Ugh. I was so unhappy with the ending. I felt very let down. Narrorator was great though. Story was compelling, ending was a let down.

Didn't like the ending

Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.

The book was good but felt like there was a lot of dialog before much really happened. If you’re looking for a fast paced book this isn’t it. The story was overall interesting and the surprise turn of events at the end wasn’t what I thought. The narrator is great though!

Slow moving but interesting

Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.

I was a little surprised by how much I enjoyed this simple book. It had a little innocence to it and the narrator kept me engaged the entire time.

A good book

Australian author Caroline Overington writes out-of-the-headlines tales that drip with pathos. In this offering, she explores custody battles in the midst of fractured relationships - describing flawed and shockingly relatable parties using both the courts and extrajudicial means to "possess" children. Allegations of sexual abuse ensue. The results are thought provoking.

As to presentation: Reader Leinad Walker does a remarkable job reading an Aussie Grandfather ('Barry') asked to review a startling case by a deceased regretful Family Court Judge who fears he oversaw a horrible miscarriage of justice.. but doesn't make character voices very distinctive when reading recorded interviews among involved parties in the case.

Altogether, I give 'Matilda Is Missing' 8 stars out of 10. I quite enjoyed the tragically human tale - particularly when included in the 'Plus' catalog. It would actually merit a Credit.

[Note: the use of foreshadowing in this story is masterful]

The book started interesting, but there were no exciting parts and nothing really made me want to keep listening. I was disappointed overall.
