Kailyn Flowers was always calm, rational, and controlled - until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. Then she did the unthinkable: She became a mortifying fangirl in five seconds flat, which may or may not have included professing her undying love. And oddly, he didn't run away. In fact, their meet-cute led to a friendship she never saw coming. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming, either....

Now, Dax needs her help. As guardian to his 13-year-old sister, he's in way over his head. And though Kailyn hasn't forgiven Dax, she isn't heartless enough to make him fend for himself, either. Soon, their friendly meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?

5stars

Absolutely loved this book. I needed something light hearted, that would make me laugh but that was also serious at the same time. This book filled in everything I needed. It’s described as second chance m, enemy to love romances and it was, with tragedy and learning how to deal with it, taking on the responsibility of a teenager also dealing with tragedy. When Dax had to go to CVS I died, literally laughed through the whole scene and even after. Loved it! Teddy Hamilton’s voice can melt butter , also enjoyed Holly Warren’s narration. Great pairing

Loved it..loved it..loved it!!!!!

When Holly Warren started narrating this book I knew I wasn't going to be able to stop listening. And Teddy Hamilton (swoon) you are one sexy dude. Every book that I've listened to by Helena Hunting has been fantastic and this one was no exception. I do look for great narrators too and this one did not disappoint. Great story and characters. This one is a winner and worth another listen in the future. 🌈🌈🌈⭐💥⭐💥

What I enjoyed most about this novel contemporary romance…Recovery from tragedy theme / Wonderful characters / Page-turner / Romantic / Realistic / Funny / Steamy / HEA

My Top Favorite Moments / Scenes:
From Daxton’s POV - I loved when Dax discovered his parents’ kink drawer when he returned to his childhood home to care for his 13-year old sister Emme. 😊 His surprise at the visible evidence that they were into getting their freak on was gold and had me 😂. I mean, how else would they keep their sexual fire lit? 😉

From Kailyn’s POV -
ಌ Someone hands me a Sharpie and I’m forced to sign everyone’s shirts. Dax had one made for me that reads Daxton Hughes Is My #1 Fan with a picture of the two of us. He’s wrapped around me, chin resting on the top of my head, his smile wide and warm and full of love.

It’s hands down the most incredible birthday party I’ve ever had, thrown by an even more incredible man. My future with him might not be easy or conventional, but then nothing worth fighting for ever is.

Sometimes the darkest tragedies bring us the brightest lights. I’m lucky enough to have found not one, but two. ಌ

Overall ★★★★★ Because this one starts off with a tragedy, it was hard not to compare it to Helena Hunting’s more angsty Clipped Wings series that first made me fall in love with Helena Hunting’s story telling magic. As a standalone drama, Meet Cute comes close to it without being as intensively angsty. I’d highly recommend this realistic contemporary romance.

★¸¸.•*¨*•★★¸¸.•*¨*•★

Performances (Holly Warren and Teddy Hamilton) ★★★★★ each, bravo! Both narrators had great tone and animated all of the main and supporting characters brilliantly.

Story ★★★★½ Don’t let the bright, cheery, à la Disney’s classic animated 101 Dalmations famous scene fool you. This is no lighthearted romantic comedy novel. These characters have suffered great tragedy earlier than anyone in life would want. How they recover from it and come to rely on each other is what made this story so realistic and enjoyable for me.

Author Helena Hunting has been one of my top favorite must-read authors every since I discovered her beautifully moving Clipped Wings series. I love how she continues to vary the tone of her contemporary romances so very well. I’ve yet to be disappointed because her creative instincts are so aligned with what I prefer to read. Connecting to and living in the skin of her characters always happens easily for me.

I hope I never have to break up with her or put her on the back burner like I’ve had to do occasionally with other romance authors who are talented but a bit too repetitive which can happen when they are very prolific writers.

Final conclusion: Meet Cute is definitely going on my favorites / re-read worthy GoodReads shelf.

Sweeter than a milkshake

It’s just so amazing how each book from Helena is better than the last. He words, and the feelings they evoke, are like no other author I have read.

The narrators are wonderful and gave each character such depth and emotion that it was a seamless fade between them.

Meet Cute has a little bit of all of us in it ... love, loss, reunions, and forgiveness.

This was a cute book-

Not my favorite HH book by any means but solid writing and storyline, the witty banter I love from her was missing and it was very low on the steamy scale. Still a cute romance with excellent performance by Teddy Hamilton and Holly.

Amazing RomCom! One of my new favorites!

“Some times the darkest tragedies bring us the brightest lights.”

I received this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and promise to give it an honest review!

I may have received this in a giveaway, but I was so excited to read it, that I just went ahead and purchased it on Audible before my paper copy even arrived. This book did not disappoint! I am in LOVE with this story and it’s immediately going onto my Favorites shelf. I was up until past midnight on a week night (and I have two jobs right now, y’all...sleep is important AF) and finished it in less than 48 hours.

It’s so well-written and full of so much love—not just romantic love, but family love. It has my favorite hate to love/anti-instalove arc, except that in this story, the hate/love aspect is uniquely one-sided on Kailyn’s part. Being one of Daxton Hughes’s biggest fans, but also hating and holding a grudge against him for a sleight in law school, Kailyn doesn’t immediately swoon and melt when Daxton comes walking back into her life. We get to see their attraction grow and her trust in him develop as the story goes on as Dax shows her who he truly is behind his former-actor mask. We get see just how amazing, and sexy, Daxton really is. His little sister, Emmy, is so incredibly adorable that I fell in love with her (in a big sister way) just as hard as Kailyn does.

Besides falling in love with the Hughes family, there are some awesome side-themes here: dealing and grieving through the loss of your parents, the importance of unconditional love, and how money or the “best” job isn’t always the key to happiness. Sometimes success looks like matching pajama pants and surprise birthday parties with your loved ones, not necessarily the corner office and title of Partner at your law firm.

As I’ve said, this book is now one of my top favorite RomComs, up there with The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren.

Great read

There is so much that is perfect in this book. But my favorite parts are on the chapter about the aisle of red. It was extremely entertaining.

Disappointed. Sadly predictable. This author usually has interesting characters and fun banter but not this book. What a bummer

Not my fave

The first hour or two were awesome! But then I started to zone out. And by the end, sadly I didn’t even like the hero... and usually I’m pretty forgiving of the a-hole type heroes... but this guy lost me along the way and ended up seeming like a jerk. The narrators were awesome.
