Publisher's Summary

You’ve Got Mail meets The Proposal—this romance is one for the books.

Savannah Cade’s dreams are coming true. The Claire Donovan, editor-in-chief of the most successful romance publishing company in the country, has requested to see the manuscript Savannah’s been secretly writing. The only problem: she’s an editor for a different company, and their philosophy is only highbrow works are worth printing and romance should be reserved for the lowest level of Dante’s inferno.

But when Savannah drops her manuscript during a staff meeting and nearly exposes herself to the whole company—including William Pennington, the new boss and son of the romance-despising CEO herself—she has no choice but to hide the manuscript in a hidden room.

When she returns, she’s dismayed to discover that someone has not only been in her hidden nook but has written notes in the margins—quite critical ones. But when Claire’s own reaction turns out to be nearly identical to the scribbled remarks, and worse, Claire announces that Savannah has six weeks to resubmit before she retires, Savannah finds herself forced to seek the help of the shadowy editor after all.

As their notes back and forth start to fill up the pages, however, Savannah finds him not just becoming pivotal to her work but her life. There’s no doubt about it: she’s falling for her mystery editor. If she only knew who he was.

Meet Me in the Margins is a delightfully charming jewel of a book that fans of romantic comedy won’t be able to put down!” — Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author of Under the Southern Sky

What the critics say

"Ferguson (The Cul-de-Sac War) enchants with this whimsical tale set against the evergreen culture war between literary and commercial fiction . . . An idealistic, competent heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, and delightfully quirky supporting characters bolster this often hilarious send up of the publishing industry, which doubles as a love letter to the power of stories. The is sure to win Ferguson some new fans." (Publishers Weekly)

Really cute but the ending seemed a bit rush

The narrator is great - she really brings the story to life and it's a cute light clean rom com. The story started out with great promise - however, the ending seems a bit rushed. Given the setting of story is in publishing & editing, it's a bit ironic that the editor didn't give this feedback.

Overall, still a great story and worth the credit though 😍

Good Read

4.5 stars
This is a fun, entertaining, good read. Will and Savannah are interesting, captivating, relatable, intriguing characters. I enjoyed the overall story and the romance. It was fun reading as Savannah grew and became stronger. The writing is easy to consume and get into.

I enjoyed the audio version of this book.

Fun Read

It's a nice, lighthearted, fun RomCom, that I enjoyed reading.

I liked the overarching plot, characters, themes.

The book should have been slightly longer, as the ending felt a bit rushed

The narrators does a good job with the main characters, but lacks a bit of range for side characters. They also talk quite fast, so I found x0.9 speed more relaxing and natural

Mixed feelings

The audio narrator was fantastic. Parts of the story were truly enjoyable - the romantic lead is great and I loved the back and forth notes between Savannah and her mystery editor. But the main character is such a dummy, is overly self-sacrificial, and she lets her family treat her horribly. Also, the ending felt a little too much like the author giving herself a pat on the back. It left me feeling annoyed, I think because the self-congratulation seemed so obvious to me, which is not a great way to close out a reading experience. (If you like the story more than I did, this moment will probably be more likeable as well. I think it was supposed to be tongue in cheek and cute.) Obviously my experience is personal and based on my preferences so your mileage may vary and the story work better for you than it did for me.

Reads like a YA novel

This story felt (ironically given the feedback about the main characters book) like a hallmark movie - quite childish. Performance was great, but if you’re looking for something that has any amount of realistic substance I wouldn’t recommend it.

Cringeworthy

This book tells, tells, and tells some more, without showing you who characters are or what they think or want. The moments where conversation or interaction lift it beyond this level are ruined by explicit and repetitive explanations. The inner monologues left me annoyed and disinterested in the main character. The parallels between the editing in the book and the editing that would have helped this book are too much to bear.
