Expected So much more, should of known better

I have several books from this author, all of them are juvenile escapism... however this books easily has the most infuriating MC, writing, narration of any of the other books.. and this seems to be one of the newer ones.

I have never wanted to take a MC and choke them out in the first chapter and end the book more than i have with this book or MC.

There is no maturity, depth or redeeming character in the MC, it is just juvenile quips, insults and sarcasm regardless of the tone or gravity of the interaction or meeting.... The master of a mage school, better be a insulting asshat expect favors and act like a 9yr old during testing and evaluation, not once does he show deference to those more powerful or knowledgable or acknowledge any favors or assistance provided... i honestly doubt he ever closed a door on the way out of a room.

Oh you have special magic metal powers, better invent gunpowder, primers, cartridge ammo, single action revolvers and a lever action rifles over 3 days (which the MC has never seen or used) in a contrived manner... let's skip cannons, rimfire rounds, and bolt action rifles as who needs modern military equipment and tactics which are desperately needed by his adoptive kingdom..

Instead you can have an OP MC.... who never tests his weapons to see if they even cycle before putting live ammo in them, who gets his love interest to hip fire a small cannon.. in a building.. as a first time test... TBH i'm surprised he just didn't invent a 1911 for style points...

Yes i accept that this is not hard fiction, and there are elves and giant monsters... but still, a likable MC who i didn't want to beat to death with a stick within the first 10 mins would a good start and perhaps a passing review of the history of firearms.

Hell an easy solution to all the problematic aspects of the guns could of been addressed with the metal mage being able to move metal quickly, but large masses take exponential more power and inaccurate in general (he just learned about his powers 5 days ago)... just use the guns for rifling and aiming, even use different cartridges for slug, shot and fitchette rounds... use his magic to actually accelerate the rounds... he gets guns that cannot be used against him, do not explode and do not require intricate manufacturing understanding to create.... it doesnt address the waste of ink that the MC is though.

Great Series

Sucked me in really like the series so far, just wish each book was longer. Really enjoy the two narrators for male and female voices.

Couldn't listen anymore after 3 hours.

First let me say the voice acting is fine. Not great but definitely good enough to make you believe they are different people.

And that's about it for the good news. Everything else was either absolutely horrid or almost approached OK.

The worst part is the main character. There is nothing likable about him. He starts off telling you he always knew he didn't belong and had a special destiny. Then a goddess plucks him from Modern Earth and tells him exactly that, confirming his specialness all along.

She then drops him off in a high fantasy world where, to no surprise, he has innate magic. That would be OK if he didn't ask for help learning how to control this power, then get pissed off every single time someone even kinda mentions he has no training. At one point he is taken to the most powerful order of magic on the planet, to the head of the order no less. Does he act humble? Is he grateful for the audience? Happy to be given a chance to learn? Triple no.

It was like watching a highschool student tell a PHD I know more than you... after you just asked them to teach you. That's how it came across.

I had to give up after three hours.

Acts like a irritable 16 year old

This book would be a hell of a lot better if the MC didn't act like an annoying little pissy bitch half the time

not that great, but not that bad either.

the character to me canenoff as a tad bit arrogant and without reason to be. and this soured the whole story becuase of that, but other readers might not find him to be so, and thus the book will be more appealing to them.

Meh

Love the narrators. They have a lot of personality and group dynamic. The story is somewhat thin and the main character, in my personal opinion, is overly arrogant. Although a kind character, the arrogance in his attitude kind of rubs me off the wrong way. Like a jock trying to be good but failing at it. Most of his thoughts are 60% sex drive , 30% logic and kindness, 10% arrogance. Im surprise these strong willed women find him charming, with his shallow flirting. It just happens with little to no reason for it to happen.
The story has very few twist and depths.

I wanted to like it.

I wanted to like this book. The concept was interesting, but the main character was frustrating and annoying. The MC knew so much he didn't evolve, basically no character building. The narrators were good and the only reason I was able to continue the story. This may be the first book I have returned to Audible.

A bit much

It's a pretty standard telling of the "guy from earth goes to save a brand new world" thing, and boy is it uninspired. I like these stories, and I came here with pretty simple expectations. They were met. That's it. To be clear, I was not disappointed so much as just... meh.
The main character is frustratingly good at everything, putting literally everyone else to shame in prowess, wisdom, intelligence, charisma, and basically any other character traits you can think of. I can suspend disbelief with the smallest nudge, but there isnt even a tiny nod to how ridiculously great at everything he is.
To the author - you want your MC to be a super mage? Cool, but dont establish him as a novice that can somehow best the single most powerful wizard in the world right off the bat.
You want him to be the best at sex? Have his patron goddess bless him somehow to make it believable.
You want him to be an expert marksman? Dont establish that he only went to a firing range all of a couple times in college while back on earth.
The list goes on, but the short version is that there's never any room for growth for this guy, he's god mode the whole way through, and there's literally no point in the book that builds any kind of suspense or concern that the guy might not just be the best at everything.
That said, passably well written and I'll probably continue the series just to see what happens, so... I guess just be aware of what you're getting yourself into.

the MC is a bit of a marry sue and apologizes a bit to much but book does have a decent story and having the two narrators made for a enjoyable listen with the way they went about it.

I really like this book. Not love, like I do the others but its still good enough to get my lazy self to write a review. PLEASE keep them coming.

Okay...

The MC ruined this one. He’s a know it all who asks for help than ignores the lesson. Just cause you can do what the teacher says without issue doesn’t mean you ignore what they ask of you just cause you think you know best... even though you went through so much trouble just to get them to teach you in the first place.
