Publisher's Summary

First in a new trilogy

From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town. There' s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There' s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there' s new resident, Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he' s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth....

It's very interesting.

Good cast of characters. very diverse.
Much like the television show.
There's only one thing that would make this fantastic.
Why is the narrator a Woman? It's Manfred's story. I thought that maybe a Male would be a little more convenient? Nothing wrong with a woman getting a paycheck.. just a bit odd.

Wonderful cat

The book is enjoyable. I have never read the author before so I wasn’t expecting the series to be a fantasy. I would read the series just for the cat. I adored the cat Mr.Snuggles. The narrator is outstanding.

Creepy

but very good. I haven't read C Harris before but decided to take a chance. The Midnight Series starter is full of people who aren't what you expect them to be but who take care of each other, no matter what..

Wow very good story!

I loved this book. I have listened to the Sookie series and was looking for something else. This fit the bill.

Confused by this story

Well. it's not the genre I thought it was but I gave it an honest try for a listen. The entire story was alot of getting know main characters in the town in deep and over done ways. The story didn't have much ground to stand on and I spent alot of time forcing myself to listen instead of being immersed. And then BAM! the story all of a sudden nears the end, shoves all this information in your face, chooses a random murderer for the "who done it" and clicks to a unsatisfying close. I would not recommend this book, it was slow, quite dull and not satisfying.

Something different

I really enjoyed this series and was disappointed that there are only 3 books!
I missed the characters when I was finished, which is pretty rare for me.

New to Me

My first foray into Midnight and into Harris for that matter. Written like we're sitting around the kitchen table dishing about the neighbors. it's really not ìmpoasible there's a b
vampire or 2 in fact , I guarantee 1 of the energy variety lol. Mainstream but read it

Not a recommendation

This isn't the worst book I've heard since joining Audible but it's close. A plot with a bunch of oddballs in a small Texas town sounds great. But throw in plot twists with no logic, a vampire and a talking cat and the result is a boring mess.
