Publisher's Summary

In Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh's edgy new thriller, Louisa Hancock thought she was safe...but there's a new killer in town.

When a mysterious package lands on Louisa Hancock's doorstep, the Philadelphia museum curator can hardly anticipate the nightmare that's about to envelop her. The package is addressed to her father—an expert in Viking culture—and inside is a ninth-century sword, a chilling thank-you note, and photos of two dead bodies in a tableau evoking a Nordic funeral. The gruesome images match a recent crime scene. But before the police can investigate the killer's connection to Louisa's father, Ward Hancock vanishes.

Sports bar owner Conor Sullivan wants nothing more than to spend his life with Louisa. Devoted and protective, he refuses to leave her side after her father's disappearance. When a troubled young boxer he's been coaching is suspected of the murders, Conor is pulled in even deeper. Desperate, Louisa and Conor take it upon themselves to find her father, but soon another ritualistic slaying makes it clear there's a Viking-obsessed serial killer on the loose. And he has a new target: Louisa.

Good book, ok narration..

I liked Louisa and Conor in the last book and I still liked them in this one. This was very interesting inasmuch as it was about a serial killer killing people, and in his mind, sending them to Valhalla, where he also wanted to go, with a Valkyrie, of course. And the way the killer talked to Ward, Louisa’s dad, you knew he really believed he was going there AFTER he killed enough people. And he was going with Louisa, once his mind convinced him she was a mythical Shield Maiden Valkyrie. Melinda Leigh writes such looney, loopy, insane, crazy, nutty characters. Ya’ gotta love that!

Then, there was the side story about the gang, and the family that Louisa and Conor helped.
Ouch! What happened to the leader Orion was just so gruesome. It didn’t break up the gang but it sure took care of the leader. AND I’m sure you’ll all be astounded at the twist at the end.

There was nothing sexual in this book but there was one sex scene. Ms. Leigh writes good murder mysteries but she always plops one round of sex in each book, nothing that leads up to it and nothing after it. So, you only have to skim past a few pages if you don’t like sex in your books.

I’m surprised that this book had the same two main characters as the third book, Midnight Betrayal. I mean, Louisa was almost killed in book 3 and she and Conor got their HEA sooo... And speaking of surprises I see that I only reviewed Midnight Betrayal on Audible and NOT on Goodreads. Hmmm, that's kind of crazy of me.

As to the narrator: He didn’t do as nearly as good a job as he did in Midnight Betrayal. His emotions were practically non-existent and his MALE voices were terrible, especially Conor’s voice. His WOMEN’S voices were fine. Go figure.

Lots of Action

This one sort of hit me in the so-so range. It wasn't my favorite of the author's books by far. But I will say it's full of action--it seems like the plot line never slows down from page one to the finish. I also found the Viking history to be an interesting addition to the story line.

The Sullivan family is certainly a powerhouse, and Conor is a keeper, for sure with his hard-wired white knight gene. He and Louisa definitely have a chemistry that adds to the delight of this story.

Midnight Obsession

I was stumbling through this read and then was bam! Every twists, surprise, and action happens at the end. Love Melinda Leigh's books even this one but not as much as her others.

Perfect Ending

This was a great ending to the series. Connor and Louisa are hunting down a killer once again. Unfortunately, there are dangers around every corner from multiple threats. I love how Louisa came into her own in this book.

Twists and turns

Twists and turns to the end. The depth of the characters is superb. This complete series is a must.

Too many loose ends

I sort of liked the Sullivan family and Louisa in the last two books of the series but this last book had so many loose ends that I was left totally unsatisfied.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job on book 4. I am legally blind and the narration can make or Break a book for me most of the time.

Unfortunately, they were too many subplots that did not hang together and I was disappointed when the book ended, thanking this is it?

story was good, but

This audio book would have been 100% better with more than one reader doing multiple voices. It's not enjoyable to hear a man dip his voice to sound gravelly as one character, then raise it to sound almost squeaky as a female.

So disappointed

There wasn’t anything about this book that I liked I even skipped all the way to the end the storyline did not keep me entertained and I had no connection with any of the characters I’ve read all of the other books this one was by far not worth my credit

Great

THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
I thought this was a very interesting, crazy and entertaining story with surprising twists. I enjoyed the characters. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing life to these characters. I definitely recommend this book this has been a great series.
