Publisher's Summary

A revised and updated edition of the first installment in legendary New York Times best-selling author Lisa Kleypas’ beloved historical romance series featuring the unforgettable Hathaways: a family of misfits trying to navigate their way through the hazards of the British aristocracy.

Miss Amelia Hathaway, a beautiful and strong-willed spinster, has looked after her unruly younger siblings ever since the death of her parents. Romance is the last thing on her mind. But when reckless brother inherits a title, the Hathaways are flung into the unfamiliar world of the English peerage. And Amelia, who’s always refused to lean on anyone’s shoulder, finds herself turning to a sexy, dark-haired stranger for help.

Cam Rohan, with his Romany heritage and mysterious past, is even more of an outsider than the Hathaways. He’s tough and streetwise with a romantic streak, the kind of man Amelia has never dared to dream of. No matter how Amelia tries to avoid Cam, fate keeps throwing them together. But as their irresistible attraction blazes, an enemy from her past threatens everything and everyone she holds dear. As she and Cam confront the growing peril together, Amelia finally has to take the most dangerous risk of all: loving a man, body and soul.

Amazing story

To begin with Rosalyn Landor is the very best narrator. The story has the perfect balance — I laughed out loud, I cried (well shed a few tears) and was on the edge through parts. Thanks for taking me on such a great journey!

No. No. No.

Ugh, so disappointed I can’t find words. And you know what- I’m angry as well. I LOVED this book. The ORIGINAL version of this book. “Revised and updated” not so much. Why have they sanitized it? They ruined it for me. I requested a credit back to my account - something I never do with a Lisa Kleypas book. Anyone have the original audible version they can send me in exchange for my credit, haha?

Longer but not better

I was so excited when I saw that Lisa kleypas had an updated edition of this book. But as much as I wanted to love it I could not. I am so happy rosalyn landor is back as she is awesome as always. There were so many things in the original story or the original recording that I loved that were edited or taken out for the purposes of being politically correct. One of the scenes especially that I loved was when Amelia and cam were in the room together and cam seduces her during their second encounter. This was completely edited and changed to make it more consenting. There are also some ending changes that I didnt care for either having to do with bees. Overall, it was good to hear another version but I will be sticking to my old copy as I think that story is perfect the way it is.

Why fix what’s not BROKEN!!!!

First and foremost I love me some Ms. Rosalyn. She is very talented. She could make the phone book sound great. Now with that being said. Why did any of these books need to be revised? These where some of my first listens. I especially feel in love with Cams voice. Maybe I was listening and looking for... what, I just don’t know. But, I grew frustrated with the change.
I am a fan of Lisa Kleypas.
But, girlfriend, in stead of rewrite, revise and revamp. Just write some new stuff. You know we are going to like it.
You don’t have to go BACK OVER THE OLD!
Let’s say it together... If it’s not broke, Don’t fix it.
P.S. How can I get the old listen back? I would hate to have to give the Hathaways back. SERIOUSLY 😳

not unabridged

this is NOT the unabridged version. If you are looking for an exact reading of the book this is NOT it. They change some of the best parts and leave out others.

Mrs Doubtfire

I love the writer, and I was so looking forward to this next series. But the narrator makes me feel like Mrs. Doubtfire is reading this to me. All of the men sound the same, and there were times I could not tell who was speaking in the conversation. I actually did not even finish this one. Disappointed 😞

So disappointed

I just binged through the Ravenals series and I was so excited to start another. But that voice.. I tried and tried but I couldn't stand listening to it. It made the book unbearable.

Enjoyable story

New listener of Lisa Kleypas books and this is my second series. Not sure what these books used to read like, but if non/dub-con was a part of those, then I'm super happy those scenes were changed. Thanks for that.

What I loved about this book were the familial relationships -- the love and care for each other -- and Cam's character. The plot was mostly compelling. Also liked the cameos from past characters.

I didn't connect with Amelia as much as I'd have liked, because I truly never fully understood her motivations. Also, I think I would have liked more Romany culture worked in. Can't put my finger on it but for whatever reason, some sort of unevenness to the flow of plot made it drag a bit. Still, I enjoyed the story overall.

Excellent!

The negative reviews take issue with revisions in this edition. I can’t speak to what’s changed directly; I just read this for the first time. But I can say that if these revisions took out non/questionable consent sexual scenes, as the negative reviews reference, I’m glad for it. I’d have stopped reading.

This book is excellent. I love the depiction of the characters and the intimacy they share. Whatever edits were made, this book is not steam free! Rosalyn Landor is phenomenal, as always. Same goes for Lisa Kleypas, who is one of my favorite authors.

A+! Definitely buy this book!

Re-write of original

I've read and listened to this book many many times and was confused when i had to purchase again.. It's an enhanced version of the original. It has all the original characters and a slight modification to one character. The enhaned modification added an element of mystery and challenge....as if th Hathaways needed another challenge. Lisa Kleypas is my all tie favorite author and Rosalyn Landor is my favorite narrator...second to Alex Wyndham. tehe The Hathaway family is a unique family with interesting and complex characters. I really like the enhancement of this book and found it well worth one of my precious credits.

Why?

I am so disappointed this was not the original book. Very frustrating when you expect something else.
