Publisher's Summary

The first official Minecraft novel! In the tradition of iconic adventures like Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island, the number one New York Times best-selling author of World War Z tells the story of a hero - stranded in the world of Minecraft - who must unravel the secrets of a mysterious island in order to survive.

Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore. Where am I? Who am I? And why is everything made of blocks? But there isn't much time to soak up the sun. It's getting dark, and there's a strange new world to explore!

The top priority is finding food. The next is not becoming food. Because there are others out there on the island...like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls. Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other. Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava? Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend: a cow.

In this world, the rules don't always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way. There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat. Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

Two editions, two narrators, one thrilling story. Enjoy this version read by Jack Black, and then be sure to check out the other available version narrated by Samira Wiley.

This was my sons first audio book. He loved it. It has sparked an interest.

Jack Blacks performance was amazing.

I listened with him and found it very entertaining.

Seriously.

If you or your little ones like Minecraft this one is a must.

Audible - if you are reading this - get Jack Black to narrate more.

Cheers.

Great book!

I love the story. The performance was amazing, the exact voice I always thought the main character to have. My favorite part was at the end when the character told all of the life lessons he learned from Minecraft

Too much sound effects, not enough story

2 hours in and don't think I can finish. The sound effects are too much and are used too often. Hearing a cow/sheep/chicken through my headphones at twice the volume of jacks voice is awful. Jack Black is the only good part of this book and even he couldn't save it for me.

update 5 minutes later I tried to keep going and at the end of chapter 8 there are cows, chickens and sheep noises all together and refunded

Jack Black complains about meaty cube arms

Minecraft is a phenomenal game that is almost always portrayed as happy and relaxing.
Well, Max Brooks disagrees, Imagine being stuck in a hardcore Minecraft world with no clue how to play the game, now imagine that you are jack black. Sadly we can't all be one of the greatest men on earth, but you can sure as hell feel like it when listening to this book.
Overall, it's very fun and I would recommend it to anyone who has played the game before.

Great book

Was a really good read. I personally thought it was going to be a little bit longer and a bit more dark, just with the author being who it was.

Max Brooks and Jack Black does it get any better..

It's a short but very enjoyable story. Jack Black does a great job narrating it. As a fan of minecraft I really didn't know what to expect. It was a good story that reminded me of all the fun I had when I first started playing the game. It's got the joy of figuring out crafting recipes, and the discovery of new items and areas. I highly recommend this to any fan of the game.

My three boys and I loved Jack Black's narration!

The story was laid out perfectly for the games actual progression, so it was fun to be able to identify with the character and understand each aspect that occurred. My oldest is 12, my middle son is 10, and my youngest is 6 and as there mom I have played the game together and found Mr. Black's narration to enrich the story line even more; we are really hoping he narrates the next one. Thank you!

Jack Black slays narration

Jack Black makes this story a treat for kids and adults alike. My 6 and 4 year olds love Minecraft and they can’t get enough of this story. They have listened to it at least 10 times all the way through and continue to ask for it. My husband and I both enjoyed listening to it as well. If your kid likes Minecraft- you can’t go wrong with this story!

Should make a sequel.

I want to give jack black a high five for this. It feels like an amazing roleplay perspective of someone playing minecraft and getting into the game over time, while making some subtle jokes about the player. Max Brooks brings in a great survival mindset and lessons as well.

Cute, funny, not a bad read for just about any age

While perhaps not the most complex thing ever, it was a pretty good listen. There was plenty of life lessons that are actually pretty good, if you haven't personally learned them through experience.
