Publisher's Summary

"Listeners will have a devilishly grand time with this rambunctiously robust performance by stellar narrators Quinn Riley and Stephanie Németh-Parker." - AudioFile Magazine (Earphones Award Winner)

From the critically acclaimed author of Something to Talk About comes Meryl Wilsner's Mistakes Were Made, a sharp and sexy rom-com about a college senior who accidentally hooks up with her best friend’s mom.

When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup—it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom—the hot, older woman Cassie slept with.

Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. In her defense, she hadn’t known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin’s daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the next morning. And despite Erin's better judgement—how could sleeping with your daughter’s friend be anything but bad?—she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night.

What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?

great story and performance, except...

In chapter 11 at 28:40, there is a terrible screech noise mid sex scene that screech the hell out of me. Great story, though

Good book.

Would have been better if they didn’t have that recording snafu in chapter 11 (or is it 10) in the middle of shower sex.

This book is amazing!

This was my first sapphic novel experience, and what a way to enter the genre. Yes, the story is a bit unbelievable in the way some things work out, but I was fully willing to suspend all real world beliefs to buy into this story. A must read!

Wow.

Simply, wow. What an incredible book - amazing story, amazing performances. I was hooked instantly and literally could not put it down, and when I had to put it down, the story lived in my head (and heart), anxious to get back to the story to see what happens next. Such a rich book. I can’t say enough good about it. This book was the first book I read by Meryl Wilsner, and if her previous works are anything like MWM, than I can’t wait to explore those too.

Great story and lovely performance

The story is great and the performance of these narrators do a great job of immersive you in the book, more so that narrations I’ve seen with just one narrator. Highly recommend

Oh my my my myyyyy.....

5++ stars

I absolutely loved this audiobook! I went into it with skepticism because I was lukewarm about Something to Talk About. But friends and reviewers said they loved this one and so I decided to give it a go. And yep - I have to say it's in my Top 10 of 2022.

What started off as a ridiculously hot one night stand during a Family Weekend college visit turns into something of a nightmare when Erin Bennett discovers the woman she slept with the night before isn't just a college senior, but a close friend of her daughter Parker. When Parker brings Cassie Klein along to breakfast the next morning, both are taken aback. With the night still fresh in their minds, neither can deny their chemistry was off the charts. But it was only ever meant to be a one-time thing. And now that they know their mutual connection to Parker, there's no way she could ever find out. And they certainly can't consider doing it again. Plus, Erin is almost two decades older than Cassie and they live states away from one another. It's impossible. If only they didn't find each other so damn appealing.

To buy into this story, you have to believe that Erin, a gorgeous doctor in her late 30s, could possibly have something in common with a woman in her early 20s besides earth-shattering sex. But Wilsner pulls it off while still allowing Cassie to exhibit behavior that reflects her age. She does it in various ways. primarily by not rushing through the story and revealing the woman Cassie is through her back story. Erin is successful in her career but has been a people-pleaser who has never really done things just for her. But maybe it's time to consider a different path.

This book is SUPER hot and has inspired me to provide a "wand" rating in my reviews - and by that I mean of the Hitachi Magic Wand variety. This one deserves a solid three out of four.

The dual narration worked really well for this book and I can definitely see listening to it multiple times. I definitely recommend this one!

Power dynamic

Let’s face it. If this were a book about a guy almost 40 dating his daughter’s best friend who’s barely 21 we’d be less accepting. My issue with this book, is the power dynamic. Clearly, Erin as an older adult who’s a Dr dating a college student who’s not even sure who she is at this point or what she wants to do with her life, is a completely unfair power dynamic. It would be much different if Cassie was in her mid to late twenties, already with an established career and life. But as it is written, I’m pretty disgusted with it. And the quick wrap up at the end doesn’t do the book justice. Oh they live happily ever after…. Eyes roll. I’m frustrated to have wasted a full audible credit on this garbage.

I’m not a fan of Age Gap

I’m not a fan of age gap romance especially when one is barely out of their teens and the other is near their forties. But the story is well written and I really like the narrators voice. Their performance was very good.

Steamy, Yet Sweet

Really enjoyed this. Full of just the right kind of dramatic tension--not the kind that makes you want to throttle one or both of the main characters. This book was a perfect balance of sweetly romantic, steamily sexy, and with a small side order of charmingly comedic. And ALL of it was totally believable. It didn't have that "This could never happen" feel, as so many romance novels do.

Hoping Wilsner writes lots more, as there are only two titles by her available on Audible at this time.

Love is not a mistake

Falling in love is never a mistake but not being open about it was. I could really relate to this story because I fell for my best friend’s mom too and it lasted 40 years. Cassie and Erin sneaking around to be together and watching their relationship grow was exciting and beautiful. I was talking back wondering how these two smart people didn’t realize they were falling for each other. The two narrators Quinn Reily and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker were amazing together.

The age gap didn’t work for me

I’m never really a fan of age gap romance but if written well, I can get past it. This wasn’t the case here. It being her daughters best friend just weirded me out.
