Like most of us, Toni Lodge tells little white lies all the time. Whether it's "I'm five minutes away" or "It must have gone to my spam folder", most of these innocent fibs are harmless. But what if you realised that you weren't just lying about the little things, but the big "life" stuff too? When Toni sat down to write this memoir, she realized that the lies she was telling herself were hiding some pretty important home truths—about her work, her identity and her mental health. In her dogged pursuit of these truths, she brazenly explores everything.

Story
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Field Guide Entry: Loved every single second
I bought this book originally to support a content creator that I have followed for a long time now. Her quick wit, millennial mind and love of swear words drew me instantly to her content. Since I have enjoyed her content free of charge for years, I wanted to support her new endeavor. I have bought only a few parenting books over the years and leave them feeling like a hot bag of garbage left too long in the sun. This book however was completely different! I listened to the audiobook and I am SO glad I did. Her narration is playful, empathetic and full of sass. I loved every single second of it. As the reader (listener) you can tell these topics are important to her and delivers it in a way that is non judgmental and usually accompanied by a hysterical story or two. If anyone were to ever read a parenting book, I would recommend this one. Signed, fellow womb fruit cultivator.

Good concepts bad delivery
While Gwenna has become the poster child for gentle parenting, she goes wayyyyyy to far on the « you’re the expert on your own child » schtick. Some parents are abusive twats who are not experts of their own child. Trying SO hard to be « alt and or funny » by using terms such as beta human, potato, crotch fruit, crotch goblin, womb fruit etc. It was so cringy I had to turn it off in several spots, just say kids like why do you feel the need to call them crotch goblins ? It’s disgusting.
The book is OK and intro into responsive parenting for people but it should not stop at this book. Some very basic topics that most child specialists know like replacing « no » with the word « stop » because of all the connotations that no could mean are lacking in this book. In another section she complains her son was repeatedly asking for snacks even though he had access to snacks but had realized that snacks usually meant transition. She did not use a visual schedule or timers to support this just summed up the chapter by saying yes sometimes they’ll ask you a million times.
This book is basic basic basic. I can think of many other books that offer more details and explanations that would make a better purchase. The constant drum of « you’re a good parent » is ignoring the fact that the only people who decide if you are a good parent are your children. She’s way over simplified what it means to be a good parent. Just because you read her book or follow her do not be fooled.
