I loved the story, but found myself quite troubled by issues of representation and language.

Great story but the cultural ground has shifted...

I read this book first in the early 80s, shortly after it was published. There are some parts that show its age - for instance virtually every smokes. But the story is rich and deep well worth your time. Furthermore the speaker just brings it to life. Excellent job!
