Story
When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage. But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he?

Story
The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was.

Story
My love story all started with a letter. Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for. You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months. So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far. While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father.

Story
Shay Gable hated my guts, and I hated hers, too. We went out of our way to avoid one another at all times. When she came in my direction, I went the other. When we locked eyes, she’d turn and walk away. All of that changed the day I was presented with a challenge. It started out as a stupid bet: make Shay fall in love with me before I fell in love with her first. That was an easy bet for me to win. I didn’t love. I hardly liked. Yet slowly the game started to shift. Shay made me crave things I never knew I wanted.
Publisher's Summary
From the New York Times best-selling author of Archer's Voice, Mia Sheridan delivers a heart-wrenching new stand-alone contemporary romance.
A broken woman....
Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.
A man in need of help....
Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses, and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.
Only love can mend a shattered heart....
Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will take them only so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

Only one word, Beautiful
Mia Sheridan’s books are my favorite! Her character’s like Chrystal/Emme are broken, but find a person in their life who can put them back together. Her characters are strong and full of life once given the chance!
Matthew Holland and Charlotte North both deserve a standing ovation for their beautiful voices which transform Gabriel and Emme in this story, Bravo!

I loved it, and I’ve read it twice already!
This novel proved yet again why Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite authors. I pre-ordered the e-book and then grabbed the audiobook so I could start reading it on release day. And then I couldn’t resist re-reading it again the following month in November.

Charlotte North’s Performance rating: ★★★★★
She was excellent! Honestly, I would have loved for her to narrate this one solo. She was that fantastic at doing both female and male characters. I loved her acting choices tons!
Matthew Holland’s Performance rating: ★★★★☆ He was really good at giving each character a distinct personality. I did have trouble adjusting to his voice each time the POV switched back to him. I just expected Gabe to sound differently and have a deeper voice.
•*¨*•
Story rating: ★★★★★
Gabe’s unwavering optimism after the raw deal life handled him really impressed me. I loved that he didn’t give up on getting to know Crystal aka Ellie. Her past was sad and her present situation when she and Gabe met was also rather grim. I didn’t enjoy that Ellie had to leave her job at quarry and leave Gabe to discover her true potential, but I understood for her it was necessary.
Random things I also liked:
There was also a bit of a criminal mystery that Gabe became instrumental in solving.
I loved the chapter quotes from the characters that kept Gabe sane during his own childhood captivity.
George was a really wise dude.

Absolutely amazing story that had me in tears while listening to this epilogue. Gorgeous writing, a unique story with characters that you can't help but fall in love with, and the kind of story that stays with you forever. The narration was perfect for this story and really did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life! This is a top pick of 2017 and a must read!

Healing for two damaged souls
Mia Sheridan always tackles hard subjects with grace and sensitivity. This is a sweet book about reclaiming your life after bad people try to snuff out our joy and feelings of self worth. It’s also reminding me that life is so much harder for those who lack a solid support system of family and friends. I enjoyed listening to Ellie’s journey.

Two people who had everything against them
Poignant and reverent to people who have gone through these things... all you can think of is how lucky you have been to have had a whole family - a good family - and that there are good people out there who can and will help you pave the way to healing. Loved these characters - and the beauty that is slowly revealed throughout this story. Always love Mia's best - Archer's Voice is another one - and this is too. Look forward to the next(s) Mia! Thank you.
