There are new residents in the Long Island Sound… and they have a taste for flesh. The first time the creatures tasted human blood, their savagery went undetected. Thus begins Mount Misery, a terrific horror tale by writer Angelo Peluso. Located on the Long Island Sound, random attacks by unknown creatures are terrorizing local residents. The question: Who is going to do something about it? Marine biologist Katie DiNardo and ichthyologist Nick Tanner have seen the damage caused by their mystery creatures, but are at a complete loss as to the attacking species. All they know is that they need to get to the bottom of this - and fast. While they continue to do their research, people are dropping like flies, and if they don’t figure out what’s going on, there’s no saying what this destructive species will do next.

In a similar style to Jaws, Mount Misery is a spectacular suspense novel that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let its teeth out! Fans of horror will rejoice with Mount Misery, and listeners will enjoy the throwback style that made this genre what it is today.

There were sections where scientific explanations got long-winded and unnecessary. It’s nice to understand the science, but this was lengthy to the point it ruined the book for me. Perhaps a first book for this author? The book was just ok.

Seems like author’s first book?

Good story but scientific language drawn out to the point of annoyance
The story could have been told as a novella

Not bad

The narrator threw me off when saying manhattan like “man-hate-in”, but then constantly sounded like a robot reading out of a marine biology textbook. That being said, I’m not even sure that is their fault, because this book barely has any plot and I’m 1hr 45mins in. I had to DNF because even at 1.5x speed, the last TEN REAL TIME MINUTES has been a textbook style breakdown of the water pathways, marine life, and water treatment facilities. Not an ounce of plot or storytelling. Just straight up textbook facts. I actually yelled out loud “WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING?!” Unless you’re a marine biologist, or you love the most dry, unexciting facts about fish and water that you’ve ever heard, I do not recommend this book.

Marine Biology text with a side of plot
