About this listen

Courtney

I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.

But this new job…

It could be the fresh start I need.

It could change everything.

The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.

Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.

As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.

I feel hope.

Sterling

My new employee is late.

I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.

But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.

A woman straight from my damn dreams.

Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.

And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.

But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.

Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.

And I realize there’s been a mistake.

I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.

No. She can’t work for me. End of story.

Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.

Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

Overall, I liked this one. The story moved quickly and was a great combination of sweet and spicy. I did find that the ultra-short chapters and rapid flips in POV interrupted the flow of the storytelling at times, particularly in more intimate scenes.

I thought the duet narration of the audio was fantastic! Erin Mallon and Connor Crais are soo good together and did such a great job of bringing Cort and Sterling to life. Two of my faves!

A spicy read with flannel and heart!

I loved this! The pacing in the beginning was a little slow for me, but overall I really enjoyed the story and the connection between the two MCs.

I loved the narrators! Ttey did such an amazing job! And while I typically love reading super short chapters like in this book, I did find that I was taken out of the story a couple times while listening to the narrators cut away mid spicy scene to let me know it was the next chapter.

For example: *very descriptive spicy scene* sudden interruption mid way through "Chapter 156. Sterling." *continued descriptive spicy scene from other characters POV*

This was not in anyway shape a reflection on the narration, simply a case of the writing style not being great for audio adaptation

really liked this one

Listening to narrators Erin Mallon and Connor Crais bring Sterling and Courtney to life was beyond fantastic! I couldn’t have asked for more! I laughed, I teared up and I enjoyed very minute of this audio book. Kudo’s to the author S.J. Tilly and yay Erin and Connor for giving your all on this one!

You have to listen to this! Seriously get it!

Loved the duet audio. This story is a perfect balance of protective alpha, steamy scenes and dramatic moments

Great story

Unfortunately, this was my first S.J. Tilly listen despite owning several books. I can tell she is a good writer, otherwise this would have ended up being a dnf. It was just kind of a hot mess of a book.

Too many chapters... way too many chapters. It completely interrupted the flow. 2 sentences are not a chapter. The chemistry was just meh. Flat. I mean they didn't even give the sideplot evil character an actual name. I think they actually called him "the bad guy". The MMC is think was supposed to come off as dark, dangerous with a hint of stalker. What I saw was a bit of a grumpy guy, with a bit of an obsession and a really odd kink.

This wasn't horrible. I really like Erin and Connor as narrators, so maybe they did a great job of selling what they had to work with.

This definitely isn't a "spend a credit" audiobook. If it's included with the membership, nothing wrong with throwing this on to pass the time. Just don't expect to be riveted.

I do have high hopes that my next S.J. Tilly listen will be way better!
