descriptions misleading but the stories enjoyable

spoiler alert: the description is a little misleading but the stories enjoyable. Elizabeth misunderstands Darcy's offer

Enjoyed it but have a few complaints

First off, I was very deceived from the description of this book and the auto sample. I thought due to reduced circumstances Elizabeth would agree to be Darcys mistress. I wanted to see them both put their pride aside and admit their attraction/love. Alas I was wrong neither one even thought that was a possibility. Marriage or nothing for both. I enjoyed the introduction of new characters but I did miss Mr. Bennet. I never knew how much I loved his character until he was absent. Narrator was amazing btw.

Another great Abigail Reynolds book!

Abigail Reynolds and narrator Elizabeth Klett make a great team, and this book is no exception. Reynolds imagines different versions of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and Klett is the perfect narrator to bring her characters to life. She does men and women equally well, and her British accent is impeccable.

Lovely reread

Many years since I read it last. Still as good as when I read it the first time. Love Abigail Reynolds. Great narrating as well. Great Jaff.

I really like this author reader combo

Abigail Reynolds has a gift for reimagining ODC's courtships into the most creative stories. This one is more closely related to canon than most, but still strays way off. Like the others, her stories are really enjoyable and the new characters she introduces are always entertaining! This story follows the sisters lifepath after the death of Mr. Bennet, it is a completely new take on that outcome and was very cleverly contrived. The only point in this one that didn't quite come together for me was the pivot point of the story in the park - I felt like it didn't quite make sense and I felt myself having to go back and re-listen to it to figure out why it went so wrong so quickly. But, that said, the story needed that moment to continue I just feel it could have been more flushed out?

other than that, great story! great new characters, and I do enjoy Elizabeth Klett as a narrator in this genre (much more that many others out there!). totally worth a credit.

I suggest a pass

I rate this as the worst Pride and Prejudice variations I've ever read. this was insipid. I also look forward to the time when audible cares enough to put a decent dictation program for the reviews.

A pretty good listen

The story line was good, but the pacing was erratic - sometimes it was rushed and sometimes it drug on too long. Some of the most interesting characters were not the leading people, but some new folks My favorite was Charlie, a ragged homeless street boy. There was also Mary, a pretty blonde maid born out of wed lock. Lady Seaton was a good character but could have better if the author had taken more time fleshing her out. Lydia was a horrible spoiled ungrateful person and i wished she had been put in her place and punished for her horrible deeds and attitude. As usual Darcy and Elizabeth went back and forth between congeniality and horrible misunderstandings.
The author tried to tackle to many Jane Austen characters and ended up not doing them all justice. The conclusions for each of the plot lines was too rushed and left me unsatisfied, particularly the story of Georgianna and her out of wedlock child. This book differed dramatically (in my opinion) from Jane Austen's perfect book. Still, after all the above complaints, the book held my interest and I listened in one sitting, but i had to back up several times to understand what was going on.

The performer was good and did not try to act out the reading - she just did a competent job of reading the words with expression and understanding.

Low angst, but repeated misunderstandings

At every turn it seems, in the early chapters, that Lizzy just refuses to give Darcy a chance to explain without jumping to the wrong conclusions.

Then, after they finally get things going in the right direction, they hit another hurdle and Lizzy once again gives up hope. Darcy of course, continues to try to win her.

This is a relatively clean Abigail Reynolds. Other than one brief encounter with a topless girl in Darcy’s bed, not Lizzy, even the kisses are low heat and there are no other bedroom scenes.

A book buyer's hesitation

I do not own this book. My review is only of the sample. I wonder if this book is simple too repetitious of other books that I've read; and, therefore, I have hesitation about buying this book. Dr. R Shechter
