Publisher's Summary

Jessica's in Washington, D.C., to support a senator's new literacy initiative. The week-long literacy event includes a visit to the White House to meet the president and a lavish party or two.

But during one affair at the senator's home in Virginia, Jessica discovers the dark side of politics. At the foot of a rickety staircase, she finds the body of the senator's chief of staff - and he has taken a permanent recess. Her search for culprits leads her from the shady halls of the Library of Congress to the D.C. social scene, and even the FBI.

For Fans of the Series

These are marvellous entries into the casebook of J. B. Fletcher. Enjoyable, relaxing, and a worthy extension to the beloved television series.

My only qualm, though Cynthia Darrow is otherwise a delight, she can’t do a Scottish accent.

Awful narrator

Very distracting to hear the alleged Scottish and Indian accents. Even Seth Hazlitt’s voice slipped from time to time. If you can’t do accents, don’t do them.

Fake accent distracting

I enjoy Murder She Wrote on tv so was looking forward to listening to a more detailed story. While I enjoyed the storyline the narrator’s attempt at a Scottish accent (the Indian one was also off) was awful and completely distracted me, a bit like fingernails and a chalkboard. I don’t care if a character is from somewhere else - use your own voice please!

? narrator

I think it was the narrator’s voice that put me off this book. I only listened to about 10 minutes, so probably didn’t have enough time to give the story a chance, but 10 minutes was enough time to let me know I just couldn’t listen to any more. Sorry
