Publisher's Summary
After Lindsey Bakeswell catches her celebrity chef fiance sizzling in the arms of another woman, Lindsey leaves big city Wall Street for small town Beacon Harbor, Michigan, to pursue her own passion as a pastry baker - and gets mixed up in someone's sweet taste of revenge....
More interested in kneading dough than adding it up, Lindsey's breakup inspired her to set up the shop she always wanted in a place that always made her happy. She'd spent many childhood summers near this beach community and converting the old run-down lighthouse into a bakery cafe and home offers a perfect fresh start for Lindsey.
But not everyone in town has a sweet tooth. The preservation society won't have the lighthouse's history sugar coated by lattes and cakes - and a protest group crashes Lindsey's Memorial Day opening. Then her ex-fiance Jeffrey Plank and his girlfriend Mia Wong arrive to trash the place. In the ensuing chaos Mia chokes on a donut and dies.
An autopsy reveals cyanide in Mia's bloodstream and Lindsey is the police's prime suspect. To clear her name, she's going to need to combine ingredients found in the town's checkered past to uncover the identity of a desperate killer....

slow start and an inane section
The story was very slow to start, almost 4-5 chapters to finally get to the plot, and the communication via the computer was just dumb altogether, saying it was the ghost?! That's where I questioned my intelligence to continue.

AWESOME
Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop is an awesome beginning to a well written cozy mystery series. The plot is interesting and entertaining, the characters engaging and realistic, the dialogue witty and funny. I enjoyed this mystery and strongly encourage others to give it a chance.

A WINNER
I LOVE IT WHEN I DISCOVER A NEW SERIES AS GOOD AS THIS ONE PROMISES TO BE. THIS FIRST IN A NEW SERIES IS AN EXCELLENT READ. THE CHARACTERS ARE LIKEABLE; THE BACK-STORIES INTERESTING WITHOUT THE TEDIUM OFTEN FOUND IN FIRST BOOKS; AND PLAUSIBLE RED HERRINGS ABOUND. I DO HOPE BOOK 2 IS ON THE HORIZON. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT NEW ADVENTURES AWAIT THESE NEW FRIENDS.

Meh
I know the point is to keep it light and appealing to a majority of readers but I don’t think the author has ever met someone from New York. I wish when the “inner New Yorker” was referred to it meant to main character actually showed something resembling a backbone or a little toughness. Nope. Not terrible for a light read though.

Lost count of ‘Inner New Yorker’ references
I wanted to love this book- since I now own it. But it was so hard to get through. I quickly got so tired of the lead character claiming she had an inner New Yorker yet she never did a thing remotely to show it. If she had an ounce of New Yorker in her- she would have prevented the first murder by simply acting with common sense. Please- for the love of god- stop using the phrase ‘inner New Yorker’ unless you start having her actually have some backbone.

A Must Listen
I listen to hundreds of audio mysteries and love to try and figure out if I can solve who it might be.. I didn't even come close😊. Great characters and narration. can't wait to listen to the next one.

heroine is a bit dim
I found the book a good fun light read but struggled with how dim the heroine is. at one point for example, she leaves her home at 3am to follow clearly mysterious happenings without leaving a note or calling the police.

Not bad
Not bad for the debut of a series. A little long winded and the recipes in middle of the chapters I’m still figuring if I like or not. We know Lindsey is wealthy and her mom a model, now stop ramming down our throat and solve the murder.

Murder at the beacon bakeshop
Story is funny and ridiculous at some points. I love the dog!
Narration was good - switching to the foreign accent & men’s voices.
Look forward to the next adventure!
