Publisher's Summary

Hold on to your hats: The authors who brought you the New York Times best seller My Plain Jane, which Booklist praised as “delightfully deadpan” (starred review) and Publishers Weekly called “a clever, romantic farce” (starred review), are back with another irreverent historical adventure.

Welcome to 1876 America, a place bursting with gunslingers, outlaws, and garou - better known as werewolves.

And where there are garou, there’re hunters: the one and only Calamity Jane, to be precise, along with her fellow stars of Wild Bill’s Traveling Show, Annie Oakley and Frank “the Pistol Prince” Butler. After a garou hunt goes south and Jane finds a suspicious-like bite on her arm, she turns tail for Deadwood, where there’s talk of a garou cure. But rumors can be deceiving - meaning the gang better hightail it after her before they’re a day late and a Jane short.

In this perfect next listen for fans of A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, best-selling authors Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton bring their signature spark to the side-splittin’, whopper-filled (but actually kind of factual?) tale of Calamity Jane.

Didn't enjoy being taken out if the story.

Didn't enjoy being taken out of the story so the the narraters can explain their social justice agendas. It didn't add to the story or provided anything helpful to the normal history snippets they usually provide. It took me out of the fictional element and I stopped enjoying the story as it was meant to be told, which I thought was supposed to be fun, funny and silly with a hint of real history. Everyone has causes and agendas I just don't always want to hear them in my fiction.

So close...

This books doesn’t live up to the other two Jane books. It got a bit political and did not have the “magic” of the other two. Hope the Mary books are good!

Great book for older elementary school girls

This was advertised as being for young adults. It isn't. This would be a good book for a young preteen with reading problems.

Gone too far.

I've enjoyed this series so much - until this book. Don't know if I'll try their next series now.

Middle grade/YA with preachy 4th-wall breaking

This is a mess. It's like Old West fanfiction replete with woke messaging. And werewolves that are brutal murderers who just need to be loved...

If the authors just told the story, they could get the same messages across without having to break the fourth wall and preach about them.

As is, it's really hard to willingly suspend my disbelief when the authors are picking and choosing what parts of historic vs modern culture and values to embrace at any given moment.

Not as great as the others

I loved the first 2 books and the 4th one as well but this one just didn’t live up to the other ones before it. Was very disappointing as a story.

Great, Fun, Silly Adventure

I love the books these authors have put out.

Both have been fantastic listens. The narrator is fantastic, the story is engaging and fun. They’ve stayed far enough from history that history buffs can’t be offended by inaccuracies because everything is essentially inaccurate, yet not too far away from history in the characters perceived personalities.

It’s a book that I will listen to again a year from now, which is rare. I can’t wait for the next to come from these minds.

Hilarious

I love these books! They’re always a hoot! With so many pop culture references and little inside jokes they’re just a blast!!

Just not as good

I just didn’t enjoy the main characters the way I did in the rest of the series. Definitely not the best but it had it’s moments.
