Story
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Award-winning New York Times bestselling author S. A. Cosby’s debut novel My Darkest Prayer is republished in a new edition, with a new introduction from the author.
“I handle the bodies.”
Whether it's working at his cousin's funeral home or tossing around the local riffraff at his favorite bar, Nathan Waymaker is a man who knows how to handle the bodies. A former marine and sheriff's deputy, Nathan has built a reputation in his small Southern town as a man who can help when all other avenues have been exhausted. When a beloved local minister is found dead, his parishioners ask Nathan to make sure the death isn’t swept under the rug.
What starts out as an easy payday soon descends into a maze of mayhem filled with wannabe gangsters, vicious crime lords, porn stars, crooked police officers, and a particularly treacherous preacher and his mysterious wife. Nathan must use all his varied skills and some of his wit to navigate the murky waters of small town corruption even as dark secrets of his own threaten to come to the surface.

First from this Author!
Great novel with a lot to pull from. It’s a dark gritty story that involves you deeply with what’s going on you feel like you know the characters and the descriptive and beautiful writing style helps to paint the picture in a way that just makes sense. Definitely going to be listening and grabbing this authors latest works. Oh and the narration was fantastic :)

Amazing First Novel
I am ashamed to admit it, after reading BLACKTOP WASTELAND and RAZORBLADE TEARS both by SA Cosby, I was hesitant to check out MY DARKEST PRAYER. MY DARKEST PRAYER was a first novel and after being totally blown away by the other two previously mentioned titles, was afraid his first effort might seem average. After Adam Lazarre-White did the narration I decided I would go ahead and give MY DARKEST PRAYER a chance even though it was Cosby’s first novel publication. I am ashamed I did not have more faith in SA Cosby, MY DARKEST PRAYER could have been his follow up to RAZORBLADE TEARS and I would have been impressed. SA Cosby has himself a lifelong fan after three consecutive fantastic novels. I am tempted to listen to new authors simply if the narration is done by Adam Lazarre-White, he is absolutely one of my favorite narrators.

The character development is amazing
The narration is perfect. The character development is equally perfect. The story is satisfying. The only negative was the audio announcing it was over.

Small Town Mayhem Gets A Reckoning
The story line was engaging. The characters were intriguing, mostly well written, and hard to forget. The main character is a wounded, complex, heroic, monster and yet you root for his survival. A few common sense decisions are missing in the plot & the women are all specialized in a way that is beyond sexist to demeaning. The profanity, disrespect for God & characterization of the female characters weakens the story & reduces the strength of the narrative.
