Publisher's Summary

Jack would rather be at sea than fixing the mistakes of his grandfather, the late Earl of Stansworth. Instead, he finds that inheriting his grandfather's wealth and title and securing the welfare of his sister and mother means joining the ranks of high society and living with the aristocracy. Luckily, Ivy Carslisle, the granddaughter of a dear friend of Jack's late grandmother, is willing to teach him etiquette and properly introduce him into society. Jack soon learns that his challenge isn't surviving his new lifestyle, but surviving the conspiracies against him as well as keeping himself from falling madly in love with his new tutor.

Rags to Riches

A lovely story of budding romance and a cinder-Fella make this a get away tale.

Should be 3.5 stars for a solid listen

This was a good listen. The narrator is pleasant to listen to and the story is good enough to entertain. The story wasn’t Earth-shattering and definitely had some flaws that made believability a stretch at times, but it was clean, and the characters were likeable.

On the downside, the story felt a bit choppy at times and made me think “well that came out of nowhere, what was the point of that?”, and there is some lack of authenticity in a few places, but overall it was worth the listen and I would try another by this author.

Meh.

The performance made it bearable.

The author would benefit from reading fanfiction (of any book/movie/tv show) to get tips on…writing in general. World building was weak; the male interest could have been more fleshed out; side characters could have been developed more too; the element of mystery was weak and randomly plopped in; and lastly, the romance was just bleh. The characters seemed to have little to no chemistry and the romance was boring at best. Overall, it felt like an assignment written the night before it was due. Is that on the author? Is that on the editor? Who knows. Not me!

All of that being said, I will admit that the author’s attempt to present female characters with agency was refreshing. If nothing else, there is that going in its favour.
