So, we’re almost at the end of the year and I was down to my final two December challenges—one of them being a book published in December. Enter My First Mistake. I found it while browsing Audible, and the moment I saw Sadie Kincaid’s name, I didn’t even bother reading the synopsis. I trust this author, full stop. And honestly? That instinct paid off.
This novella has everything I expect from Sadie Kincaid: sharp banter, strong personalities, loyalty, and characters who feel deeply—even when they’re pretending they don’t. Addie and Chase’s story completely pulled me in, so much so that I read/listened to it in a single day. It’s fast-paced, emotionally charged, and incredibly easy to devour.
I really loved the honesty between Addie and Chase, especially how unapologetic Chase is about going after what he wants. That said, I do wish this book came with a small warning label—yes, the MMC cheated in the past, and while it’s handled within the story, it’s something readers should know going in. Still, the brother’s best friend, second-chance romance, forced proximity, and small-town vibes worked beautifully together, especially set against a cozy Christmas backdrop.
The wedding cabin in the woods, the unresolved tension, the history between them, and that pull they can’t quite escape made this such a fun and emotionally satisfying holiday read. And let’s talk about the duet audiobook for a second—Mollie Stark and Joe Arden together? Absolute perfection. Honestly, that pairing alone should come with its own warning label 🔥🎧.
All in all, My First Mistake is a solid Christmas novella you can easily read or listen to in under five hours. Cozy, spicy, emotional, and exactly what I needed to close out my December reading goals.
