  • Summary

  • Growing up in a poor Yiddish speaking home in 1950s London, Lillian – then just a teenager – marries charming older man Raymond. One day he takes their children to the local park. But he never returns.

When they reappear 40 years later – the search for the truth begins.

Unfolding like a mystery, we follow Danny Ben-Moshe and his eccentric Jewish family as they unearth secrets, attempt to reconcile, and hear shocking news that sheds a new light on events.

Interesting and insightful

I really enjoyed my Sunday morning listening to Danny recount his mother's story. No spoiler alerts here - but I really found myself thinking about inter-generational trauma and also about how women through the ages have viewed themselves and their position in society. Danny's mother is a delight to listen to - she is honest in her recollections and at times can be quite passionate about the events that transpired. If you like a human interest story, with some surprises along the way, this story is for you!

Sad, gripping and potentially triggering

A nearly unbelievable story about the repercussions of the actions (and inactions) of a young, naive woman in 1950s England whose children are kidnapped by their father. Some of the people in this story are thoroughly unlike able (I'm referring to both parents here) but the story itself is fascinating. Be aware that anyone who has experienced trauma in the form of mental abuse or abandonment at the hands of their parents WILL be triggered by this story.

Wonderful heart-wrenching yet heartwarming

As a mother of three young children who my ex-husband stole from me over 9 years ago, I understand this beautiful woman's grief and depression. I know that I would immediately love her upon meeting from her cheerful funny personality 💗

great history of a life

a great story about how you don't have to be a victim and you can overcome stuff even though can be horrific. No victimology or political correctness or any of that just learning to overcome.

Great Story

I loved how the author put together his families story. With his older half siblings taken before he was ever born he tells of growing up with that history and what ensued.

Devastating - but absolutely worth the listen

Fantastic way to see just how much the story is changed by perspective. And how family trauma continues to cause trauma through the line until it's addressed.

wow

What a story. Thank you for telling your story and allowing us, the listener ,to listen and absorb your pain and trauma. I believe this poor woman had her children stolen from her and has tried her best to live her life despite this horrific ordeal. I hope they carry on with their lives and love one another knowing that they all have suffered.
