From the authors of the best-selling series Cherringham.

This compilation contains episodes 1-3:

A shot in the dark

Sussex, England, 1929. Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there considerably, when young Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his government posting in Cairo, with his unconventional American wife - Kat Reilly.

A little Night murder

A young poacher is found shot dead in the woods of a grand estate near Mydworth. A sad accident it would seem. But the boy's mother is convinced it is murder and when Harry and Kat investigate, they find the poacher's life was not as innocent as he made out...

London calling!

When a prominent family's daughter flees sleepy Sussex to seek a career on the stages of a glittering West End, Harry and Kat are asked to check in on the young woman. But the two of them soon discover that there is a much bigger danger to the woman and her family than mere acting dreams being crushed...

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series Piece of Cake. He is also the lead in the BBC series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

Rather simple mysteries

These read like the overly simplistic treatments of TV episodes, and although much is made out of our heroines need to translate from British English to American English, there were several speech errors and anachronisms. I really love Nathaniel Parker‘s narration, but he is worthy of far better. If this had been just a little bit more exaggerated, it might have served as spoof or rollicking good fun, or if even slightly more realistic, it would’ve been less irritating. But when you have a heroine who is just this side of Superwoman, who gets hit in the head and loses consciousness and within five minutes is climbing down an ivy-covered trellis from a second-story window - well, at that point I just threw up my hands and said OK whatever. Too bad. I wanted to like this a lot. Not that it wasn’t somewhat entertaining, but I don’t think I’ll be looking for more of it.

Loved 1&2, liked 3

I love Harry and Kat! The last story annoyed me because I never REALLY cared about the girl they were trying to find or her family. The first two books were better.

Okay

Very nice simple cozy mystery, nothing too deep, but it is nice to read a cozy British mystery actually written by Brit, instead of an American.
The last five I’ve read were veeeeery clearly American-written, and possibly they’ve never been to England (much less bothered with anything like…historical research. *gasp*). Using Americanisms and modern attitudes/language in historical settings…🙄 They tend to discredit and even denigrate common British attitudes like…politeness. Their ‘heroines’ are loud, rude, and entitled-I guess everything they think a heroine should be.
THIS book, however, while even HAVING an American heroine, doesn’t make her any of those things. A cute, short mystery.
The mystery, however….not great. Pretty obvious, tbh. But a solid mediocre plot. I’ll take that over Americanisms and trying to shoehorn in bad sec scenes any day.

Awesome Escape to the late 20’s

This book is so well written, and the audio is amazingly performed! It will transport you to the late 20s in Britain. You will live the location, the characters, and the plots! Unfortunately you will want more! You will want to read more and more and more. You have been warned!
