Publisher's Summary

The spine-tingling, bone-chilling novel of supernatural suspense from the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Fireman and Horns - now an AMC original series starring Zachary Quinto, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ashleigh Cummings.

"A masterwork of horror." (Time)

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be.

Charles Talent Manx has a gift of his own. He likes to take children for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the vanity plate NOS4A2. In the Wraith, he and his innocent guests can slip out of the everyday world and onto hidden roads that lead to an astonishing playground of amusements he calls Christmasland.

The journey across the highway of Charlie's twisted imagination transforms his precious passengers, leaving them as terrifying and unstoppable as their benefactor.

Then comes the day when Vic goes looking for trouble...and finds her way to Charlie. That was a lifetime ago. Now, the only kid ever to escape Charlie's evil is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx hasn't stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. On the road again, he won't slow down until he's taken his revenge. He's after something very special - something Vic can never replace.

As a life-and-death battle of wills builds, Vic McQueen prepares to destroy Charlie once and for all - or die trying.

What the critics say

"Quite simply the best horror writer of our generation, Joe Hill’s masterful storytelling is on full display in NOS4A2. It is by turns terrifying and hilarious, horrifying and full of heart, and relentlessly compelling." (Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of The Prophet)
"Fascinating and utterly engaging, this novel is sure to leave readers wanting more. One thing is for certain, however. After reading this book, readers will never hear Christmas carols in quite the same way again." ( Library Journal, starred review)
"[A] new take on the fantasy-horror genre...Highly recommended." ( The Sun Herald Sydney, Australia)

not what I expected.

Not my usual interest in fiction but a really worthwhile listen. Very dark and at times disturbing. Narrator excellent. Will listen to another Joe Hill in the future.

Not another tiresome vampire book!

I was hesitant to purchase this due to the idea that it was another vampire book. It most certainly was not.
NOS4A2 is a great piece of fantastical fiction. I am famous for losing instrest in a book, but this one had me wrapt, curious and wanting for more. The characters were wonderfully painted for the reader and the plot never lost pace.
I think Neil Gaiman fans would quite enjoy this. It had that same type of wonder along side some darkness that Gaiman captures in his stories.
... And Kate Mulgrew rocked it!

Very exciting story narrated exceptionally well!

Mulgrew does a fantastic job of adding to the suspense and excitement of this story throughout her narrative performance. I usually prefer to read books rather than listen to the audio version as many times I ind myself annoyed by the narrator. This is not the case with this audio book! This very interesting and story by Hill has made me a fan and I look forward to reading the rest of his works!! Definitely recommend!!!

Best book I've read/listened to in a long time!

The story is riveting and brilliantly told. Add Kate Mulgrew's voice and talent to the mix and you get a book you just won't want to put down. I absolutely adored this book and will definitely read more written and narrated by these two!!

What a story!

I kept forgetting that there was only one voice actor narrating the story, Kate Mulgrew is my new favourite story teller, light years ahead of the rest. I was simply captivated by this book, in fact, I consistently found myself unwilling to stop listening, engine running, door open one leg out of the car long after arriving somewhere.
Great story, well narrated, excellent character development, kept me up late, made late for work and occasionally for supper.

A Semi-sweet Christmas

I'm so excited to have visited Christmasland. It is the most wonderful place ever and you should join me where it is Christmas every day of the year. Please take me back to Christmasland....but seriously this book was good. Great story. I know Joe Hill really likes this narrator as per the post-novel interview but unfortunately that is where I had some problems. Kate Mulgrew is quite capable as a narrator and generally does a good job through most, and a really good job with the antagonist performance. However, the voice used for a lot of the kids, yelling, whining, crying and certain characters is so ear-bleedingly annoying that it completely turns me off. I struggled to get through sections where there was a lot of that because it was so grating and honestly ruined the performance for me. I generally recommend audiobook over print for a lot of books, but for me I recommend the reverse. Do yourself a favour and get the print copy if you can.

Lots of Fun

Not the best book I've ever read, but definitely entertaining. My first read of Joe Hill, glad to see the creativity and depth of story runs in the family. Very good as an audiobook. It actually came up on a list of top horror audiobooks, and it is well deserved.

As well written as it is read.

Thought provoking horror that will make you think about your own life and upbringing, bring out your insecurities, and leave you with a powerful message.

Fantastic read

Thoroughly enjoyable. I actually felt disappointed (even a little bit robbed) when I had to stop to go to work or answer a call. The characters are real...tangible, and the fantastic feels almost within reach of reality.
