Publisher's Summary

Sam Walsh is hanging on by a thread.

He works hard at concealing his chronic illnesses and represses the lingering pains of childhood, but he's running out of vices to distract him from his wounds.

Nothing feels good anymore. Not his prize-winning work preserving historic homes, not the family that refuses to give up on him even when he's at his most self-destructive. The only thing he wants is the conservatory-trained chaos he meets in a stalled elevator car. She's the friend he never asked for and can't imagine living without. Then, she's more than a friend. She's everything.

Tiel Desai is not the same person she used to be. She's finally found a place for herself in Boston, leaving the rejection and disappointment of her past behind. She keeps herself too busy to think about any of it, her days spent in grad school and with neurodivergent children in her music therapy practice, her nights devoted to the city’s underground music scene. She's learned how to get by—until Sam Walsh crashes into her world. He up-ends everything and takes spaces in her life she didn't know she had to give.

They find more in each other than they ever realized they were missing.

But finding it might not be enough to keep it—or each other.

Ugh! Sam Walsh - who could not love this man!

Necessary Restorations
Narrators: Christian Fox & Lucy Rivers
Author: Kate Canterbary

Sam Walsh, snappy dresser, player and highly regarded in his field of architecture. Sam comes with issues though, he has diabetes and carries a heavy emotional load from his youth. The day he meets Tiel becomes the beginning of Sam’s personal restoration. Tiel is vivacious, went to Juilliard and works with children in the Autistic Spectrum through music. Loves music, is a foodie and keeps to herself and has very few friends. That all comes from her upbringing, the only one in her family who went to University and not stayed to work in the family restaurant.
In words this story touched me, with narration it took me on a truly emotional journey with both of these characters.
Another of Kate Canterbary’s stories that comes to life and opens you to feel the emotional ride these two characters go on. Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers bring a strong game to the Walsh Family audiobooks, just when you think Kate Canterbary's books can't get any better, you find out the audio book take listeners to the next level of pure enjoyment.

Emotionally Charged, Funny and Uber Sexy!

So far, this is my favorite book in the series. Something about Sam's story and his health issues resonated with me. Sam, the misunderstood playboy meets his other half in Teil in an unlikely place. Both of them.him similar barriers and work to heal each other. At least on the surface.

What I loved most about this story was that I felt the ache in my heart during the climax. I knew it was coming, but the development and the unraveling of their journey gave me tears. Of course there is an HEA, but getting there was the best part.

What can I say about the performance? Lucy Rivers always gives me the feels with. her delivery, pacing and tone and Christian Fox's voice is like melted chocolate. This is one duo I can listen to all day!

I'm conflicted

I really enjoyed Sam and Tiels relationship and its development. HOWEVER Tiels insta-hate for his family and friends was incomplete and irrational. her behavior at dinner was beyond rude and never addressed and even when the sister offered an olive branch she was rude. I dont know that part of their story annoyed me but I loved the other parts of their story. overall good read

I LOVE this series!!!

I love how real this series is. I feel like these characters would be amazing to hang out with in real life. it really doesn't seem like they are fictional, they feel like real people. I love Sam and Tiel, while not my absolute favorites, they are great in their own right. I have read all the current books in the series so it's nice to be able to listen to them while I work or cook now.

if you haven't given this series a chance, please do. Kate is an amazing author and these are great characters with real substance. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My First Audible and I Loved

What made the experience of listening to Necessary Restorations the most enjoyable?

Christian Fox's voice was swoon worthy. I loved Lucy Rivers voice as well, but oh the feels Christian gave me. I could listen to him read the phone book.

What other book might you compare Necessary Restorations to and why?

None, since this was my first venture into Audibles.

What about Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers ’s performance did you like?

Their story telling was beautiful to hear. Even when they would change their voice from male to female and vice versa it flowed and worked.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I don't know, but I could get back to you on this.

I was completely charmed!

Would you listen to Necessary Restorations again? Why?

Yes, the two narrators were excellent, and I really enjoyed the story's pacing and the character development for both Tiel and Sam. I have nothing but praise for the audio production and the well executed plot.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sam. I have a soft spot for OCD and germaphobic characters because I can identify with them 100%.

Which character – as performed by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers – was your favorite?

Sam. Again because both narrators had great voices for each character but for Sam in particular and also because I liked the way Sam's mind worked.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Embrace your perviness!

Any additional comments?

This was my first novel by Kate Canterbary, and it certainly won't be my last. Now I'm also incredibly curious about Sam's other siblings. Consequently, a complete series read is a must. I'm also putting narrators Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers on my list of MUST-LISTEN narrators.

Slow burn

This book is such a great slow burn. I love to see the growth in the relationship and the characters. I love the family elements. It was great performance by both voice actors. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Beautiful story.

I can’t get enough of those Walshes. Sam and Tiel’s story is my favorite so far, I love that Sam isn’t perfect and that Tiel loves him wholeheartedly just the way is he. This is such a beautiful love story, it gives me a warm and gooey feelings, I’ll probably listen to this story again very soon. Excellent story, five magnificent stars.

Good read

This was my favorite book of the series so far. Sam, a very complex person with health and other issues finds the one person. Christian Fox is an amazing narrator.

Very quirky pair- Sam and Tiel part 1

Sam is the brother with numerous health issue and probably the most challenging mental issues. Tiel is eccentric and talented but sadly has her own family issues. They seem both made for each other and doomed so the story is a rollercoaster of dealing with there own problems and each other’s issues. They are interesting though not my favorite couple and the ending was fine but wait, they have a whole other book coming up so this is really only part 1 of their story.
