A high-stakes online game of dares turns deadly....

When Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy: sizzling-hot Ian. At first it's exhilarating - Vee and Ian's fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn when they're directed to a secret location with five other players for the grand-prize round. Suddenly they're playing all or nothing - with their lives on the line. Just how far will Vee go before she loses NERVE?

With Nerve, debut author Jeanne Ryan delivers an intensely gripping suspense thriller perfect for fans of The Hunger Games.

Different than expected

If you bought this on the notation it would follow the movie, you’d be wrong. This is very different.

Great in the sense that you have a general idea on what to expect, and you get a different version of the Nerves game; but it is difficult to picture some of the details described in the text.

Underwhelming

The story was cool but the dares were either lame or down right unbelievable that an average teenager would do/get away with.

Also the narrator was horrible at male voices. Super cringe.

Wouldn’t waste your time with this

This story sounds like something straight out of a highschool brain, combined with a weird sexual mind of a 40 year old. The references all sounded appropriate for 16 year olds other than the random sexual comments that would get thrown in… about teenagers?! The writing itself was very weak and at some points even comedically awful. The main character was an extreme “pick me” girl who had no real character development, but rather sounds like her character was based on an astrology reading about Capricorn’s from Teen Vogue. The men in this novel were predatory and weird, and it didn’t help that the performance of the voices sound like the noises I make when I mock somebody. Not to mention the whole plot was extremely anticlimactic, with the ending leaving you with nothing but a cheap line looking for a sequel.

The storyline is unlike the movie, and if you’re looking for something similar, don’t look here. The movie was already “eh”, but this book makes the movie look like a million dollar box office hit. I didn’t pay anything for this book, and it’s worth nothing more than free.

Not great

For once, the movie was actually better than the book. Not by much though. This book just seems really tame. There aren't really any big moments of development for any of the characters and the plot is just weak.
