Story
True-crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace. As the storm worsens, Wylie finds herself trapped inside the house, haunted by the secrets contained within its walls - haunted by secrets of her own. Then she discovers a small child in the snow just outside.

Publisher's Summary
“Wonderful - suspense and surprises, real characters, and a scary, ominous backbeat. This feels like the book Jackson was born to write.” (Lee Child, New York Times best-selling author)
Named a Best Book by USA Today • People • The Wall Street Journal • Time • Entertainment Weekly • Bustle • and many more...
From New York Times best-selling author Joshilyn Jackson, a twisting novel of domestic suspense in which a group of women play a harmless drinking game that escalates into a war of dark pasts.
In this game, even winning can be deadly....
Amy Whey is proud of her ordinary life and the simple pleasures that come with it - teaching diving lessons, baking cookies for new neighbors, helping her best friend, Charlotte, run their local book club. Her greatest joy is her family: her devoted professor husband, her spirited 15-year-old stepdaughter, her adorable infant son. And of course, the steadfast and supportive Charlotte. But Amy’s sweet, uncomplicated life begins to unravel when the mysterious and alluring Angelica Roux arrives on her doorstep one book-club night.
Sultry and magnetic, Roux beguiles the group with her feral charm. She keeps the wine flowing and lures them into a game of spilling secrets. Everyone thinks it’s naughty, harmless fun. Only Amy knows better. Something wicked has come her way - a she-devil in a pricey red sports car who seems to know the terrible truth about who she is and what she once did.
When they’re alone, Roux tells her that if she doesn’t give her what she asks for, what she deserves, she’s going to make Amy pay for her sins. One way or another.
To protect herself and her family and save the life she’s built, Amy must beat the devil at her own clever game, matching wits with Roux in an escalating war of hidden pasts and unearthed secrets. Amy knows the consequences if she can’t beat Roux. What terrifies her is everything she could lose if she wins.
A diabolically entertaining tale of betrayal, deception, temptation, and love filled with dark twists leavened by Joshilyn Jackson’s trademark humor, Never Have I Ever explores what happens when the transgressions of our past come back with a vengeance.
This audiobook includes an episode of the Book Club Girl Podcast, featuring an interview with Joshilyn Jackson about Never Have I Ever.
What the critics say
"Joshilyn Jackson's skills as an author are rivaled by her talents as a narrator. Jackson sets the story in a Florida Panhandle community, and she delivers the appropriate accents. From beginning to end, she breathes life into her characters, vocally representing the wide range of emotions found in this rollercoaster of a story. Intense scenes cause one to listen with breathless anticipation. Jackson provides yet another performance sure to thrill listeners." (AudioFile Magazine)

It was long
I was intrigued. But this book dragged on way longer than it needed to. Much was over explained and drawn out. The narrator was soooo “chirpy” that I had a hard time listening. I was ready for it to end. Maybe 1 chapter 3/4 of the way through with some suspense. The rest didn’t do anything for me.

Absolutely Amazing
This book is freaking AMAZING. Not what I expected but everything I wanted. It's suspenseful and poetic, with excellent plot and character development and unparalleled writing. I've never read a book of this style and exact caliber and can't shut up about it. The only thing I didn't like was the appropriative use of "spirit animals", especially because it could have easily been written out, but the rest of the novel is fine in that regard.

Another great read
I’ve been reading Joshilyn Jackson since Gods in Alabama. Her books always have a great side of southern hospitality and charm. Her characters are relatable and interesting.
Never Have I Ever is a different kind of novel from her others but the charm is still there. I was taken in by the first pages and couldn’t stop until the last page. Then I wished it was wasn’t over.
As a male reader, I highly recommend this book and all her books. They have strong women characters but the books are not just for women.

Interesting but too Improbable
I’m not sure if I liked the book or not. I finished it and I was interested in what happens or to see it come to fruition. The circumstances and the timeline just didn’t match up. Great ideas for a story, but not laid out in sensible way. Things happened too quickly to care about. There were some good twist with those I wish had opportunity to spend more time on. A lot of throwaway characters and the diving information was interesting. I won’t give any spoilers but this was a very serious subject on many levels wrapped up a little too sweetly for severity of what had taken place.

Couldn’t finish it
Unfortunately this was just too silly for me. Characters were all 2D, plot was either far-fetched or not that interesting. And I hate to say it but I don’t think I like when authors narrate their own books. Even if the writing skills are there it doesn’t mean they can perform?? I returned it.

Not her best. Implausible & reaching too hard.
Not her best work. Implausible and reached too hard for too many twists. The whole time I was saying "oh come on - No one would do this!!! and This would NEVER happen!!" She is one of my favorite authors; I buy her books without even reading what they're about. I've read all of her books and given all 5 stars, but this one, I almost stopped listening to. JJ, if you read this, things need to be believable. This book was not. She would not have gone to prison. The whole Lottie thing was silly and the diving part of the story just seemed added because you wanted to learn how to dive and write it off as a business expense or something. It makes me sad to write this, and I hope you run your story lines by honest people who will tell you what they really think, in the future. (Yes I listened to the credits.)

Oh please ...
The entire premise is absurd, once the "plot" begins to unfold. Without pointing out specific spoilers - suffice to say that there were fundamental contradictions in the set-up and follow-through. There is so much filler, and repetition, that it's easy to zone out while listening - undoubtedly the death knell for a "thriller."
The narration is better-suited for children's books - breathy, drawn-out, "girly". Even worse is the voice given to the antagonist. It's heavy on the vocal fry and rendered in a nasal, whispery, pseudo-sexy tone that makes it difficult to understand .... and so one-dimensional. No matter what she's saying, the situation or the mood - same intonation. Didn't the author/narrator read her own descriptions?
Anyway. With all due respect to the rave reviews ... if you're a stickler for tightly-plotted, seamless thrillers - give it a pass.

Joshilyn RULES
I enjoyed every minute of this story. First off I am a big fan of the author and second I love her narration. That said, I haven't loved everything she has written. This story grabbed me from the first moment to the last. The characters were well crafted and well layered. The story, while a bit bizarre, was also believable in many ways-maybe not quite as exaggerated. I enjoyed the descriptions about diving ( which I know nothing about ) and how she used it as analogy to what the characters were going through emotionally. I have recommended this as a great summer read to all my friends and for those who love audio its a dont miss!

Too long
This book was way too long for what it was.
The main character kept getting lost in reverie, that quite frankly, added no value.
The book was interesting enough but I found myself fast forwarding through several sections to just get on with it already.
Really nothing special and honestly I'm not sure I'll read another from this author.

She does it again!
The only bad thing about this book is that I’ve finished it, and now, again, I have to wait impatiently for another book by Joshilyn Jackson. I didn’t see the twists coming, and I love that because I nearly always unravel the mysteries on a story before they are made obvious by the author. When one such revelation occurred in this book, I said, “I love this writer!” Out loud. I am already excitedly anticipating the next one.
