After a rough start in book 1, this is a satisfying conclusion

I’ve gone back to edit my reviews of the previous books. This series is wrapped up neat and tidy in book 3. while the first two books have issues, the problems are no worse than a decent R rated action movie.

Taken as a whole, this is a decent series. A nice middle ground between prepper-fantasy and a more traditional end of the world novel.

Worth it in the end, but it was a bumpy ride at times. Would be nice to see this as a single credit Omnibus edition.

Great premise but a little cringe

As this genres is right up my alley I had high hopes for the series. The first book was well done, a little slow at times, but over all a good one. By book three however, there were I was rolling my eyes and shaking my head every few minutes. I did buy and complete the whole series so what does that say about me lol

The author definitely pays attention to detail and explains a lot of detail and process that even your most crazed prepped might not think of so that’s a plus however there were 3 majors fails, in my opinion, with the story.

The first, and worst part by far, was the 4 “wives” thing. I won’t go into detail but this was very unbelievable and a little insulting to the otherwise strong female characters. I don’t know that that would fly with even the kinkiest or open minded gal out there. Plus, the dude would be exhausted and shooting no more than dust in a week. Lol. The cooing and fawning over him was nauseating and more high tip strip club than wholesome family. Also, no other guys got a little frustrated or jealous? Okay.

Second

Things seemed to turn out great… all the time. Henry’s group didn’t have a single fatality, no real disease, no snakes bites, chemical exposure, radiation poisoning from all the nuke plants shitting the bed?

Third

It was rather convenient that most of the survivors were soldiers, doctors, pilots or tech nerds…unfortunately, those kind of people make up a small minority of your average person. In reality there would be admin and data entry workers, baristas, drive through attendants and soccer moms who, for the most part, wouldn’t know how to change a flat tire let alone plant a crop or fix solar panel, OR FLY A FUCKING UH60!

One last bonus concern

I don’t want to speak poorly for the combat service support trades. They work hard and keep you in the fight. The are the backbone of any army, from an ex mech infantry, especially the vehicle techs. But I did find the Henry’s and Angie’s proficiency with crew served weapons systems like the 50 a little inaccurate. I’m sure they would have had a familiarization shoot and run through some basic drills if they deployed and maybe manned a turret on convoy if needed but there’s typically an infantry, cav, or armoured force protection element who is responsible for convoy escort. Especially if Kandahar province and other awful places in the trash can.

Just my opinion.

Too much

There is way too many sex scenes if I wanted to read about people having self I would have bought a book on it. I really liked the first book but do not like this one.
