Publisher's Summary
When 19-year old Nicholas Nickleby is left destitute after his father's death, he appeals to his wealthy uncle to help him find work and to protect his mother and sister. But Ralph Nickleby offers little help and proves to be both hard-hearted and unscrupulous, leaving Nicholas to make his own way in the world.
Nicholas' adventures take him to Yorkshire boarding school, Dotheboys Hall, and then back to London, meeting an extraordinary gallery of rogues and eccentrics along the way. Like many of Dickens' novels, Nicholas Nickleby is characterised by his outrage at cruelty and social injustice, but it is also a flamboyantly exuberant work, revealing his comic genius.

Delightful
Listening to this book was such a delight! I've always had a difficult time reading Dickens. When i read, I find i don't understand the characters and Victorian speech. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is simply marvelous. His voices helped me remember and understand all the characters almost on a personal level. I loved the actual story too.
I've found a new love for Dickens because of this audiobook. I'm looking forward to listen to some other titles from the Audible Dickens collection! Also, I hope to hear Kobna Holdbrook-Smith read more books on here!

Spellbound. Amazing.
Best listen of my life. What an actor is Kobna. If there is an academy award for reading it should go to him. Lucky for me I was able to perform routine tasks while listening or I would have been in an enchanted stupor for the duration of this book.

Extraordinary
The performance is outstanding and the quality of production very high. I wasn’t sure I could get through 34 hrs of Dickens when I started but I soon found myself looking for opportunities to extend my listening periods. I’ve read other novels by Dickens before but not this one. Hearing it read was a wonderful way to be introduced to this classic.

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith!
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith truly understands this work and brings every word of it to life. By far the best narration I have ever heard in an audiobook. It is rather like listening to a play with a full cast of actors. He is glorious in his portrayal of each character with a distinct voice and diction. This is an absolute masterpiece I will enjoy repeatedly for years to come. This is Dickens the way it is meant to be read.
