disappointed
I don't write reviews. English is my second language and there are lots of people writing reviews so I don't think my contribution is necessary. This book however disappointed me to the point that I have to say something about it.
I can't imagine how Martin decided this was a finished product. I absolutely love everything Martin wrote but this thing looks like a bunch of notes he put together in an afternoon. The idea is not original and not properly explored. I didn't feel connected with any of the characters and I didn't care much about what happened to them. It didn't help that the narrator was unable to produce believable voices for the different characters. Holding your nose while speaking doesn't sound like another voice. It's just silly and mildly annoying. The encounter of an ancient alien species that the book builds up to falls horribly flat at the end with nothing but nice lights to describe it. The novel felt like the first chapter of a book that might have potential.
I gave it 3 stars out of respect for Martin. It barely deserved 1 star. I wish I could get my 4h back (yes, that bad).
