Publisher's Summary

Originally published as an eBook that became a controversial media phenomenon, No More Mr. Nice Guy! landed its author, a certified marriage and family therapist, on The O'Reilly Factor and the Rush Limbaugh radio show.

Dr. Robert Glover has dubbed the "Nice Guy Syndrome" trying too hard to please others while neglecting one's own needs, thus causing unhappiness and resentfulness. It's no wonder that unfulfilled Nice Guys lash out in frustration at their loved ones, claims Dr. Glover. He explains how they can stop seeking approval and start getting what they want in life, by presenting the information and tools to help them ensure their needs are met, to express their emotions, to have a satisfying sex life, to embrace their masculinity and form meaningful relationships with other men, and to live up to their creative potential.

a MUST READ for men, and women for that matter

I'm a hypnotherapist "The Sensualist" who works with couples to improve their sex life. It's easy to teach people techniques, but what I was seeing in my clients was a pattern of frustrated and resentful men who were busting their balls to try to make their loved one happy, and asking how to change it. This was not about lovemaking technique! The book came highly recommended by about 10 colleagues, males that I admire who have made the journey themselves from nice guy to having a very strong sense of self and a healthy way of engaging in relationships. It's now a staple and something I recommend to pretty much every couple I work with who finds themselves in this dynamic. This book is essential for any PERSON who finds themselves frustrated by endless giving and not receiving the reward hoped for from their work and sacrifice. It was revealing to me as well, as a female "nice guy" in recovery.

An absolute eye opener!!

This was the most eye opening audiobook, I’ve ever listened to in my life. If you’ve ever been branded as “too nice”, this is an absolute must listen.

If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!

okay book

the book is okay. you must be pretty wipped for this book to do you a lot of good. i read it on the recommendation from another book on dating i really enjoyed and found helpful. i also don't agree with a number of the ideas about being nice as a problem but putting being nice over your own needs is a problem. if that is you you could really get something from this book or just go to a mens support group and do the hard work yourself

A great book to discovering one's self.

I relate to this book a lot, I've always lived my whole life being the nice guy, until this light shined some light on the issue, I can finally say that this will change my outlook on how I view myself and my self-confidence. A must read for any man.

Amazing in-depth content, narration okay

Absolutely necessary book for most men in existence. He described me down to the last details. Already applying some of his strategies, and I plan on seeking therapy and support groups. Unfortunately no official NMNG groups here in Canada.

The only thing that bothers me is the quality of the recording. He seems too boomy and lower end as compared to other recordings. This means I can’t always understand him even at full blast from my Bose Bluetooth speakers while I do chores (or shower), because the treble end seems weak or overpowered by the bass, so it sounds muffled. Other books seem fine, cutting through ambient noise.

He also reads the whole book very robotically. I get that he’s trying to enunciate every word separately and clearly and slowly enough, but there’s almost no flow or life to his phrases. So you might start tuning him out if you’re not focused enough.

Definitely a book I intend to keep and listen to over and over again, though.

20 years late...

This book was incredibly accurate as to how messed up my view of myself was and my way of attaining my needs and wants. during the whole book, I was continuously in awe as to how accurate the definition of a nice guys was spot on with me and my life and relationships suffered immensely because of it. I am now getting rid of all that toxic shame and clearing my life of everything that doesn't work for me. I am no longer afraid of not pleasing others in hopes of them liking me and if they don't like it, too bad. Time to put myself first and whatever happens, Ill handle it. Thank you Dr. Glover

Nailed me right between the eyes

As a 46 year old male, ex-Marine, and self professed “nice guy” I finally understand that all this time, I have been causing my own pain. It hasn’t been my career, my spouse, my friends, my environmental conditions. The common factor in all those things has been me. No more Mr. nice guy described many of my own internal feelings like someone was reading my mind. Things that I’ve never told anyone. Now that I have clarity on these issues, I now have a way to work through them to be set free. I’ve already applied some of the techniques with immediate results. Mainly because the change started with me, which then encouraged positive responses from others. So basically, now I’m in the process of reviewing all of my thoughts and actions to challenge and change the defaults. If you even think this book might help you, take a chance. I did and I’m so very thankful to the author.

Only for nice guys!

Overall, this book tries to explain the origin of the nice guy and why he acts like he does. Some good excercises to help overcome nice guy syndrome, but I only recommend this book if this is your first read on the topic.

Practical guide for people pleasers

This book really resonated with me. It details many of the reasons and solutions for overcoming toxic shame. This is the updated version of the book. I’m not sure if the previous version had a pdf, but this one doesn’t. Tough to practically implement the recommended exercises without that.

dissatisfied with life? buy the book

exellent book! it helps you see, how you in childhood from not getting your needs met, adapted to patterns of not making a lot of trouble, not asking for things and putting other people needs before your own (to deserve love, attention or whatever you need ), and how that's making it difficult getting your needs met as an adult.
it forces you to see your darker, disfunctional sides and how you sabotage for yourself. it's hard and felt heavy sometimes, but in the end I think it's worth it.
it encourages you to seek support and help from safe people, therapist or join a support group, to help you through your problems and help you get your needs met. there are 45 different exercises with questions to help you see and change your behavior. I will listen to this book again and do all of them. thanks for a great book!

Very insightful...

Upon listening to the book, I listened the sample and from there it started describing certain things that made sense in describing the type of person I may be. So now I want to learn more in which I did, but it definitely takes another listen. So much information about what you can learn from being too passive and explains just enough for you to understand ways to control your niceness. I'm hoping to learn more the second time around, so I can better understand myself and how I treat others... thank you!
