À propos de cet audio

AN INSTANT INDIE, USA TODAY, AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“The world knows that Carroll prevailed in her gazillion-dollar lawsuits against Trump for defamation and sexual abuse. But hearing her describe that courtroom battle in her own smoky, mirth-filled drawl is an experience too delicious for the printed page. Which is why you shouldn’t read Not My Type—you should listen to it.”—The Washington Post

“Carroll reads with emotion as she relives her traumas and triumphs, her voice alternately cracking from the strain of holding back tears, dripping with exquisite snark or overflowing with joy. The result is a moving and serious listening experience that is also a lot of fun.” — BookPage (Starred Review)

"Delightful . . . We already know that E. Jean Carroll looked smashing when she went to court versus Donald J. Trump. But her irrepressible voice was, necessarily, repressed...Now she is saying pretty much everything." —The New York Times Book Review

"Buoyant." —The New York Times

A hilarious, hopeful, revelatory behind the scenes account of the trials that riveted the nation

You’ve heard about the tantrums, the seething, the storming out of court, yes. But what about E. Jean’s side of the story? What about the flight suits, the bottle of green Chartreuse, and the bob?

Not My Type puts you in a better seat than the jury box.

You will hear Alina Habba, Esq., “Trump’s most beautiful attorney,” asking E. Jean to “list” the people she has “slept with”—a list which turns out to be so marvelous, it is worth twice the price of this book. You will experience the fear and loathing of E. Jean’s “psychiatric evaluations,” and hear how she tries to cheer up Trump’s gloomy, $750-an-hour shrink by telling him about the strange white tablet Hunter S. Thompson gave her.

You will be in on the choosing of the “clothes for court,” and the creation of “the look”: a look that will help the jury connect the younger E. Jean who is attacked by Trump in Bergdorf’s with the older E. Jean who sits in the courtroom.

It’s all here: two dazzling trials, the full-tilt high stakes, the laugh-out-loud commentary, and the inspiring fact that a woman is never too old to get even.

I loved every minute of this audiobook. It was heartbreaking given the subject matter, and yet hilarious as she digresses to give herself ‘treats’: list of what writers do in the morning (she loves lists), lavish Hunter S Thompson-esque descriptions of all the trial characters and their clothes. Her love of life shines through as does her warmth and liking of almost everyone she meets.

Courage and buoyancy

Loved E. Jean Carroll’s presentation in her own voice - what a dynamic storyteller! Even with such a personal and harrowing experience to relive in vivid detail, she does so with elegance, humour and grace.

Captivating and inspiring!

I loved every second of this audio book. I hope that E Jean gets to throw all that money up in the air and roll around in it before making her charitable contributions. HA HA HA DJT, you miserable sod!

Courage on steroids

I’m so glad I listened to this. I couldn’t stop and listened to the whole thing in a couple of days. Excellent writing. I have so much admiration for E. Jean for writing this book.

The narration, the prose, it’s very, very compelling

I liked the pace of the memoir and the way that the author uses hyperbole and humour.

Having the offer narrate her own story, made it more interesting

What a wonderful victory story for women everywhere. But what I wanna know is has she received one penny of the money that she is owed? I certainly hope so.

I loved hearing the story in E Jean’s voice and the emotion that was evoked in her and in me.

Sad that the orange asshole keeps getting away with sex offences and now he wants his to kill free speech

E. Jean Carroll delivers her story with wit, charm and intelligence. I could listen to her tell me stories all day long. I am so happy for your success. Thank you on behalf of all who have been sexually assaulted, molested and raped by monsters. You stood up to the evil and won!!

Brilliant!

Such an enjoyable listen. E Jean Carroll is a remarkable woman. I was thrilled she read it in her own voice. Her book was endearing, funny and heartbreaking. What she has endured would completely devastate most women. But not E Jean! To take on the most vile man in the world and his supporters would not be for the faint of heart. I now follow E Jean on Substack and look forward to the day her judgement is paid out, it will be glorious!

Fantastic, endearing, funny and heartbreaking all in one!

E. Jean tells us at the start of the audiobook that she almost bailed on reading the book herself and boy, am I glad that she changed her mind. Her energy and attitude, the way she builds tension and lets her emotions shine through could never have been elicited by another reader.
Now, while we all knew the outcome going into this book, I appreciated the attention to detail, even though there were a few times that maybe there was a bit too much detail (like the chapter that explained everything that was packed for the ordeal) I was impressed by how it ultimately played out.
Justice was served and I felt my heart leaping out of my chest at timely moments during the hearings.

Fascinating and provocative, a must listen
