Slow, tedious without surprise

I have read many of Mercedes Lackey's series. This one was a far miss from my other experiences.
The writing seemed piece meal in the beginning, going from adventure to mini adventure without a strong plot. I was left with no strong connection to the main characters, and found myself rolling my eyes in their inner and outer dialogue.
Just exhausting to reach the end waiting for it to be over.
Still a fan though, just not this series.
