À propos de cet audio
Born in fire. Tempered in blood.
Epheria is a land divided by war and mistrust. The High Lords of the South squabble and fight, only kept in check by the Dragonguard, traitors of a time long past, who serve the empire of the North.
In the remote villages of Southern Epheria, still reeling from the tragic loss of his brother, Calen Bryer prepares for The Proving - a test of courage and skill that not all survive. But when three strangers arrive in the village of Milltown, with a secret they are willing to die for, Calen’s world is ripped from under him and he is thrust headfirst into a war that has been raging for centuries.
There is no prophecy. His coming was not foretold. He bleeds like any man, and bleed he will.
Includes bonus story The Fall.

Dragons Riders: The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs. But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war. This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip.

The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

After the War of the Gods, the demons were cast out and fell to the world. Mankind was nearly eradicated by the seemingly unstoppable beasts until the gods sent the great hero, Ramrowan, to save them. He united the tribes, gave them magic, and drove the demons into the sea. Ever since, the land has belonged to man, and the oceans have remained an uncrossable hell, leaving the continent of Lok isolated.

Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Poursuivre la série
Blurb Review: This is one of the most cliché fantasy books you'll ever read. It is the kind of book I usually find incredibly boring. Yet...somehow I enjoyed it far more than most other paint-by-numbers fantasy novels and am excited to continue on to the next book.
I don't get it either.
Worldbuilding: 6/10
There is absolutely nothing that will surprise you about the worldbuilding.
Characters: 5/10
There is absolutely nothing that will surprise you about the characters.
Plot: 5/10
There is absolutely nothing that will surprise you about the plot.
Overall Investment/Emotional Impact: 9/10
I cannot fathom why, but I really, really enjoyed this one. The clichés didn't bother me near as much as in Eragon (which is the exact same story but without the F word) nor did the juvenile characters irritate me as much as in The Forgetting Moon (which does a similar thing of talking classic fantasy tropes and giving them a new spin - but has far superior worldbuilding and a much less predictable plot). But I enjoyed this far more than either of them. I guess Cahill must have just captured the tropes just right for me and enticed me with enough promise of differences to come. It almost felt more like a comfort read than anything and I'd like more of it.
Writing/Prose: 6/10
Good, but far from great. His metaphors and similes were often overwrought and unnecessary and clunky. His characters were paper thin. The plot was so standard. The different races barely felt distinct. It was clear this was a first time writer finding his footing.
Audiobook Narration: 9/10
The narrator was fantastic, holding a good amount of distinct voices and making the story very easy to listen to.
Content Warning:
Some hard language and standard fantasy violence.
