À propos de cet audio

Born in fire. Tempered in blood.

Epheria is a land divided by war and mistrust. The High Lords of the South squabble and fight, only kept in check by the Dragonguard, traitors of a time long past, who serve the empire of the North.

In the remote villages of Southern Epheria, still reeling from the tragic loss of his brother, Calen Bryer prepares for The Proving - a test of courage and skill that not all survive. But when three strangers arrive in the village of Milltown, with a secret they are willing to die for, Calen’s world is ripped from under him and he is thrust headfirst into a war that has been raging for centuries.

There is no prophecy. His coming was not foretold. He bleeds like any man, and bleed he will.

Includes bonus story The Fall.

Blurb Review: This is one of the most cliché fantasy books you'll ever read. It is the kind of book I usually find incredibly boring. Yet...somehow I enjoyed it far more than most other paint-by-numbers fantasy novels and am excited to continue on to the next book.

I don't get it either.

Worldbuilding: 6/10
There is absolutely nothing that will surprise you about the worldbuilding.

Overall Investment/Emotional Impact: 9/10
I cannot fathom why, but I really, really enjoyed this one. The clichés didn't bother me near as much as in Eragon (which is the exact same story but without the F word) nor did the juvenile characters irritate me as much as in The Forgetting Moon (which does a similar thing of talking classic fantasy tropes and giving them a new spin - but has far superior worldbuilding and a much less predictable plot). But I enjoyed this far more than either of them. I guess Cahill must have just captured the tropes just right for me and enticed me with enough promise of differences to come. It almost felt more like a comfort read than anything and I'd like more of it.

Writing/Prose: 6/10
Good, but far from great. His metaphors and similes were often overwrought and unnecessary and clunky. His characters were paper thin. The plot was so standard. The different races barely felt distinct. It was clear this was a first time writer finding his footing.

Audiobook Narration: 9/10
The narrator was fantastic, holding a good amount of distinct voices and making the story very easy to listen to.

Content Warning:
Some hard language and standard fantasy violence.

Super Cliché...but I liked it

Feels like it was inspired by wheel of time and some of tolkien. I wish there was more world building. Its not something great but I did enjoy the story. I did predict the plot, see a lot of things coming. Still it’s a good story and I will spend my money on this to read the rest.

Predictable but good

This is tough because I hate to give a bad review of someone’s hard work. That being said, this was slow though, very slow and for me, and hard to get through. I understand it’s setting the tone for the following books but there wasn’t much to keep my attention. The story feels like one told many times before. Nothing really sets this book apart and keeps you wanting more.

Not terrible but not great either

Had a little bit of a hard time at first but I blame that on the headache I had that day but before half way through I couldn’t wait to hear more. I bought all the books around that same time 😅👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

I suck at reviews but this series is great!

in general the story is good, it's very familiar to other fantasy tales. Nothing ground breaking but nothing bad about it either.

A fun, familiar story
