About this listen

September. A beautiful New York editor retreats to a lonely cabin on a hill in the quiet Maine beach town of Dead River - off season - awaiting her sister and friends. Nearby, a savage human family with a taste for flesh lurks in the darkening woods, watching, waiting for the moon to rise and night to fall.

And before too many hours pass, five civilized, sophisticated people and one tired old country sheriff will learn just how primitive we all are beneath the surface...and that there are no limits at all to the will to survive.

Excellent all around. Not for the faint of heart. Ketchum’s writing is economical and vivid. Moves at a fast pace.

Great story and narration

Despite its subject matter Ketchum was a brilliant wordslinger. Murder is one thing, even grotesque murder is one thing, but to dive into the minds of both predator and prey during the onslaught is quite another.

I would have 5 star'd the reader as well but some voices just sounded too similar to others. Left me somewhat bewildered once or twice. Otherwise bravo!

Awesome read

This book is scary and violent. You might say that this situation couldn't happen but it feels so damn real. an Inbred cannibal family could live in any woods.
