A really lovely window into the lives of these characters- didn’t matter to my enjoyment that I had not read the previous books.

A very engaging story

A theme that runs through the book is class. It shows how 'To come from nothing' is it's own identity, with it's own struggles. This is something that interests me. Yet, I did not like this book as much others by Elizabeth Strout (I loved the Olive Kitteridge books). What I didn't like is how poverty is linked to families that are unable to love and nourish their children. In my experience people who come from nothing often do well because of the warmth and caring that poor families contain as much as wealthy ones. I don't think wealth is a good indicator of how children fare within the home, though it may certainly be indicative of how the larger society treats them.

First time in a long time to listen to someone talk to me and tell me a story. Loved her view and take and it was marvelous.

Didn't realize it was the last of the series. Now will go back and listen to #1 and #2.

I loved this book! Elizabeth Strout’s writing is wonderful and is perfectly structured for being read aloud. In Kimberly Farr she has the perfect narrator. The characters were deeply developed and I always wanted to hear what was going to happen next. This was one of those books which I hated to be finished with.
