Publisher's Summary

Here is the incomparable Dr. Seuss' story of an unnamed "you" whose travels through the world involve a series of ups and downs. His ultimate success, however, is "98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed!"
(P)2007 Random House, Inc. Listening Library, an imprint of the Random House Audio Publishing Group

What the critics say

"Don't be fooled by the title of this seriocomic ode to success; it's not 'Climb Every Mountain,' kid version. All journeys face perils, whether from indecision, from loneliness, or worst of all, from too much waiting. Seuss' familiar pajama-clad hero is up to the challenge, and his odyssey is captured vividly....Seuss' message is simple but never sappy: life may be a 'Great Balancing Act,' but through it all 'There's fun to be done.'" My favorite Dr. Seuss piece!

I was not overly impressed with the soundtrack but loved John Lithgow's delivery. He doesn't disappoint.

Lovely effects!

Any additional comments?

My 5-6 year-old son loves the narration. We have the book, but as English is not my first language, I wanted a good narration. And this is a very good one, very entertaining, with nice sound effects.

The book is pretty short. What I've done several times is I open the book, put the audio, and move through the pages while it's being narrated.

Excellent narration ruined by music and effects

Lithgow's narration of Dr. Seuss' immortal verse was excellent, but my appreciation was totally was marred by the music and effects which were often at least as loud as the narration itself. Did they not think that the power of Seuss' words in the hands of a capable narrator (which Lithgow certainly is, don't get me wrong) would be suficient, tasty they had to cover it up with so many annoying bells and whistles?

What a great way to wake up!

Did you know that Theodore Geisel had to receive forty rejection notices before he got one Yes!? Given that his stuff was so revolutionary, it's not that surprising that publishers were shy of pushing the envelope with this ingenious world of ideas and delightful illustrations. I doubt that any person has ever had the chutzpah to deliver these lines as a commencement speech, but someone should, with appropriate credit given. And while we're at it, I listened to the sample of Ted Danson reading the Lorax, and I gotta tell ya, Ted is no John Lithgow. His voice is wrong, contrived and phony from the git-go. Lithgow once again entertains us with his actorly skills and his knowledge of the world as it is, as opposed to the world as we wish it to be. I love Dr. Seuss. I love John Lithgow. How can one go wrong?

Fun, Short Little Story!

What made the experience of listening to Oh, the Places You'll Go! the most enjoyable?

John Lithgow is reading a book by Dr. Seuss! What more could you ask for?

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Probably the best 7 minutes, I have listened to. The motivational words, read by the great John Lithgow, with stirring music, is just what you need to lift your spirits and get you ready for the day, the week, for life. Often a gift for graduation, it motivates and tells it like it is. Listen to it everyday on the way to work and it may make your days better.

GREAT BOOK FOR ANY AGE - Ages 0-120!!!!!!

This book is a book that I have purchased and given to people many times. I have given this book to children, as well as people well over their retirement age! It contains wisdom that is concentrated, precise, concise, simple, and gets easily absorbed by your mind. It helps to quickly "ground" and encourage anyone. The book is "short and sweet" as they say! Now that I've discovered this spectacular audio version of the book, I expect that I will wind up purchasing many audio copies of the book as well! This audio version is the best that I've ever heard. Such a blessing to be able to listen to this book while you do something else physically (like for those automobile trips or commutes. This helps the book's subject matter to enter the conscious and subconscious mind in a much more enjoyable and refreshing manner.

For more than just children

As we grow, we forget the lessons that somehow seem to be common sense. It's natural. Adulting is hard. So when you feel stuck, just give it a listen. I highly recommend it😊

Refreshing

Refreshing even as a college student. This is the first book I bought on Audible yeeears ago (not that I'm really that old), and Dr. Seuss' words disseminate wisdom even now.
