Caspien Deveraux was poison.

It took me years to realise that he hadn't been born like that. He'd been cultivated and nurtured by a careful hand and a bitter heart. When I first met him, he was a bud. One primed to bloom beautifully and deadly. One I should have torn out at the root.

I loathed him. I loved him. And until him, I hadn't known just how completely those two things could exist at once.

This story was incredibly captivating. The characters felt lived in, the plot and drama in this world was plausible and didn’t read as forced. The narration is quite impressive, though a bit over edited at times which was annoying. There are some tough subjects and scenes in the story but they are essential to the plot and I feel Scarlett wrote them with an abundance of context and care. If you struggle to hear soft voices but don’t want your headphones blaring I suggest wearing noise cancelling ones as it can get a bit whispery at times.

It really gives a modern day great expectations vide truly loved it. Emotional and dramatic the relationships feel really grounded and are given enough time as to not feel forced. This book made me feel truly engaged finished in a single sitting. The voice talent did an astonishing job bringing the characters to life and delivering strong emotional impact. This is a top notch recommendation.

It truly feels like an old classic written in modern day.

I listened to it all at once without stopping because it had me so hooked. It was so sad but had a happy ending. Such an emotional rollercoaster, had me laughing and crying. It was so good, so devastating and emotional. Loved it!

Beautiful story full of heartache, pining and love. Narrated beautifully and so well done that it felt like a full cast. I really enjoyed this.

This book hit all the feels! A true coming-of-age story. The narrator was truly amazing! Hard to believe it was one man doing all of those male voices. Such talent.
