Best Series Ever Piers Anthony Never lets ya down

In this Piers Anthony story from 1983, hardluck everyman 'Zane' kills the anthropomorphic manifestation of ''Death' during a suicide attempt.. dooming himself to take on the mantle of the ethereal figure. He goes on to explore relationships between the "Eternals" God + Satan, sets up a domicile in Purgatory, reconciles himself with being manipulated to fall in love with 'Luna Kaftan' in a plot to thwart Satan, and meets up with other incarnations like 'Fate' + 'Time' +'War' + 'Nature'.
The plotting is clever & thought-provoking and the vocabulary/prose is creditable.. the book is very enjoyable (although I found the author's lighthearted - almost tongue-in-cheek - approach unpalatable).

As to presentation: Reader George Guidall impresses. He reads a touch too slowly on this project (listen at 1.10X for the most natural listening results).. but his diction, timbre, cadence, tone, and voice-acting are all exemplary.

Altogether, 'On A Pale Horse' was a great 'Plus' find. The 7.5/10-star offering would rate a Credit for anyone willing to invest it.

[Note: the concept of Death only being responsible for mortals without clear Heaven or Hell destinations is strikingly original]

Piers Anthony always has a unique way of looking at things. I am very much drawn to uniue perspectives, as I tend to have rather unique thought processes of my own. Piers has a talent for storyweaving and hard to predict endings. Beware, however, Piers also has a knack for confronting difficult and disturbing situations, and does so unflinchingly. This book can be a trigger point for people who have suffered a variety of traumas. That being said, I still find this to be a beautiful and thought provoking series and one that I refer back to frequently over the years. Finally, I just want to mention that the afterword for this book was interesting and had me laughing frequently. Definitely worth a listen.
