They say your first love leaves a mark.
For Calliope James, it didn't only leave a mark, it tore out her heart and left it bleeding on the ground.
He was her best friend. Her first kiss. Her everything.
Until one day, he wasn't.
Zachary Messiah will never forget the girl with eyes the color of whiskey. But he's not that boy anymore.
Cold. Cruel. He's devoid of emotion.
Their paths were never supposed to cross again. But love doesn't always play by the rules.
Now he's the King of Steinbeck University, and she's the new girl on campus...and the pasts they have fought so hard to bury are about to collide.

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧 Enthralling & Heartfelt!
I loved everything about this book, it is a fantastic enemies to lovers sports romance novel. The story is captivating from start to end, it is so absorbing that you forget all else that is going on around and it is hard to put down once you start because you need to know what happens next. The characters and storylines she created are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored the two lead characters, Calliope “Callie” James and Zachary “Zach” Messiah, they were really good friends during H.S. they really got each other and their relationship turned into more. But things changed, Zach changes, basically ghosted her Callie did not know why. Callie’s life has not been the easiest, she lost her mother and she is estranged from her father and her brother, a brother who is a star basketball player in the college she is attending. If that was not bad enough the last person she thought would be there is there, Zach, and he is also playing basketball, something he never wanted to be part of because he lived in the shadow of you brother. Zach comes off as a real jerk, driven by hate and anger he wreaked it and it was eating him alive. My heart went out to him after finding out why he switched to go to Steinbeck U. Callie friended a sister of one of Zach’s teammates, Joel, so she is traveling in the same circle as him. He is not happy and the angst and tension between them is explosive but so is the chemistry. A lot goes on in this book, the story is beautifully plotted with plenty of drama, both relationship and family on both sides, angst, heartfelt emotions and a smoking hot romance. L A Cotton, thank you for another fantastic story & emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧And for the fabulous narration, Rachel Woods and Liam DiCosimo are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They bring these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each their own voice and personality. Their portrayal of each character was spot on, I loved how they took each role and made it their own sounding believable and just as I pictured them to sound. Liam DiCosimo played Zach’s role with perfection and Rachel Woods did the same for Callie. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all of the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

Not good!!
It’s a miracle I made it through this book. I enjoy college books sometimes even though I’m way too old for them but this one wasn’t good. I wish I would have known they were Freshman and Sophomores. The immaturity was just too much. Also, the epilogue didn’t go past that year. So you have no real wrap up. The narrators did good

A Great Enemies-to-Lovers Sports Romance!
This is the first book in the Steinbeck U Series, an Enemies-to-Lovers Sports Romance. Zachary (Zach) and Calliope (Callie)'s story is beautifully written, emotional, and heartwarming, filled with angst, misunderstanding, and miscommunication. The characters are fantastic and well developed, and the supporting characters are great and intriguing. The story has drama, and twists and turns. This is a great New Adult, College Romance. and a Second Chance to love. Rachel Woods and Liam DiCosimo did a fantastic job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the Series.

Good sports romance
This had angst, an angry ex-boyfriend, and lots of basketball. If you like college romances, this is an interesting read with a happy ending.

I enjoyed this book
I did enjoy this book but it did take me a few chapters to get into it. Without spoiling anything I wish the misunderstanding would have happened sooner.
