A man ran in place all his life. He worked a job he didn't love for people he couldn't stand. But at the end of the day, the number in his bank account went up.

That man got a second chance at life. He woke up in another world, one full of adventures and romances and monsters and gods. And floating above his head, he saw the number "1".

So what did he say?

"Gosh, I better make the number go up."

Not today. Not for this old soul. Reborn as a beast of battle meant to live a short life and die screaming, Garek refuses. He puts the madness of skills and levels behind him and sets out to found a little farmstead. He grows crops. Maybe someday he'll get a pig and have bacon.

It's a shame the world won't let him be. It's a shame that the warmongers and level-grinders hate nothing more than a soul at peace.

He put down his sword for a plowshare, but when trouble comes calling, he'll pick it up again.

don't let the title fool you, this has been masterfully written. the characters are full of depth and personality. the prose and pacing are fantastic.

This book is nice a light and makes GREAT USE of Jonathan keebles vocal range! It also made me fall in love with the idea of farming.

Great story the system skills and levels aren't shoved down your throat but mentioned enough. the farming aspect is great and there is well placed humor. Haven't seen a romance for our main character not sure how that's going to play out or if there will be one. All in all can't wait for the next one.

I went into this one blind, and I'm blown away. The characters are all unique and interesting. The world building is great and I found myself interested in all the characters that got introduced. I'm not sure if it was because of the legendary narrator or the writer but I also found myself laughing hysterically at certain parts. overall this is a 10/10 and I'll probably pick up a physical copy just for collectors sake.

Don't let the use of puns in the titles dissuade you from reading this solid series. There is a level of maturity to the writing of this novel that is rare in this genre and it comes across in the characters and story lines. It's not a coming of age novel but about world weary spirit who knows what he wants.
