Publisher's Summary
“Unputdownable!” - Robyn Carr, New York Times bestselling author
Annie Taft’s wedding is four days away, and it will be one of the grandest anyone can remember in her small South Carolina town. Preparations are in order. Friends and family are gathering in anticipation. Everything is going according to plan. Except that Annie herself has vanished. Did she have second thoughts? Or has something much worse happened to the bride-to-be?
While her loved ones frantically try to track her down, they’re forced to grapple with their own secrets - secrets with the power to reframe entire relationships, leaving each to wonder how well they really knew Annie and how well they know themselves.
What the critics say
“Each character’s voice is distinct and lived in as the reader gradually connects the threads tying everyone in this small town together. There’s a lot here. An intriguing mystery filled with hearty characters.” --Kirkus Reviews
“Marybeth Mayhew Whalen’s character-driven suspense propelled me through the pages with a relentless need to absorb every word. Unputdownable!” --Robyn Carr, New York Times bestselling author
“A seductive and emotional page-turner, Only Ever Her is a moving exploration of love, loss, and regret. Told in multiple points of view, where every character has something to hide, this mysterious tale asks the question: How well do you really know the ones you love? You won’t be able to put it down, but you won’t want it to end either.” --Karen Katchur, bestselling author of River Bodies

Better than expected
I’m not really sure why I didn’t have high expectations for this book, but I didn’t. The primary reason I got it was because Joshilyn Jackson narrates it. I always enjoy her books, the ones she has authored and read. There are not many books read by the author that I like, but JJ is the exception. Her narration has now introduced me to a new writer and I am looking forward to more written by Marybeth Mathew Whalen. This book weaves quite a tale. A tale that doesn’t always take you where you expect. The summary would have you think the main character is Annie, but really there is a small handful of characters that I would consider main characters and Annie as central to the book, but not necessarily a main character. My heart ached for these characters. Not to give any spoilers, but it wasn’t, again what you would think is described in the summary. It was more about the journey each of them took because of Annie’s disappearance. It is set in the south, the perfect locale for a book narrated by JJ. Well done MMW! Oh and yes, there is a male narrator, but he’s not a large part of the dialog, which is kind of strange because the character is an important character in the book, but the author manages to write an interesting character without him being a huge part of the story. Overall, it was a good book, great narration performance, I would use a credit again for it.

Not easily put dot and then
Picked up again. Too many characters with wordy problems. Did not care for this book.

Intolerable narration
Just the worst. Unable to listen to this while driving. Female narrator sounds like she's inhaling helium. Male narrator monotonous. DNF.

It was ok
This was not my favorite book by a long shot although I know many really loved it - just didn’t really “feel” it for characters - maybe because I wasn’t crazy about narrators. Sorry

Story is good; the narrator is better.
The story is good, but I bought this book because it’s (partially) narrated by Joshilyn Jackson. In case you don’t know, Joshilyn Jackson is also an author, and I don’t know if it’s because I (mostly) love her books, but now I love her narration too. She’s really good at doing different voices and bringing the characters and story to life. I also trust that she only narrates good books, and so far, she hasn’t let me down.

Not too bad a story
Lots of character here but I didn't have much trouble keeping track. I found the story rather mundane and was just trying to get through it. It picked up there towards the end with a twist I didn't see coming and a surprise at the end. Glad I finished it after all.

Ugh
First of all, I almost quit after the first 30 minutes. The narrator's voice was so annoying, like a sickly sweet child (no characters were children) with a fake southern accent. Terrible. And the story -- definitely not a mystery when (spoiler) after all that, she just slipped and fell. Nothing to do with anything about the marriage, previous death of her mother, etc. She just fell down.

Love the emotion!
I am hooked on her books now. This is the second I’ve read and I love how truly human and flawed her characters and their behaviors are.
