Story
When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien.

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door there was going to be trouble. Lots of it. And trouble's the last thing I need, since I'm not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet 13 billion light-years away. Plus, if there's one thing I know, it's that humans can't be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. Cuz they are.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are...well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable. Bethany can't deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren't a complication she wants, she can't stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she's drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her 18th birthday - to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner...and so is Aiden. If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training" - which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time - she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome - especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom - so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do - and sacrifice - for her.

Publisher's Summary
The Lux series continues with the third installment of this riveting paranormal YA series.
No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for Katy, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something she'll do again and now that they've made it through the rough patches, well, there's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they loved. With help coming from the most unlikely source and Adam's death still lingering with those who loved him, friends will become the deadliest of enemies and the villains will no longer be clear. When each step they take in discovering the truth puts them in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more Katy realizes there is no end to what she's capable of. They won't turn back, even if the outcome will shatter their worlds forever.

5 Opal Stars
I thought there was action in book 2, oh boy what I wrong there is some crazy action in book 3. I forgot how much I liked this series.
Don’t get me wrong there were times I wanted to shake Katy and there were times I wanted to shake Deamon, but overall this series is just getting better and better.
The relationship between Dee and Katy kinda hurt my heart I am hoping they can get back what they once had.
Ahhh I can’t keep typing I have to go and read book 4
Again the narration isn’t horrible, I think if she were narration anything other than teenagers it would be totally fine. Again I like her she doesn’t take from the story at all just she has an older sounding voice.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

So glad I'm listening now and don't have to wait for the next book cause wow this series sure is full of cliffhangers! Another great book in this series, Opal is filled with action packed excitement and lots of problems. This book had me more emotional than the others in the series because there was a few sad parts, some broken/damaged friendships and lots of pain. I keep having to remind myself that these characters are teenagers when I start feeling like I need to smack them up side the head for some of their decisions and drama but other than that I love Katy & Daemon and I think they have come a long way since book 1.
The narration has grown on my very much!

Again, NOT for YAs, but great series.
Parents, be warned!! This book series constantly involves kids going behind parents backs and participate in sex, drinking and even skipping classes. There is a fair amount of sex (talk AND participation), some drinking and skipping school. I realize it's "normal" in the high school era to be tempted by things like this, but these books do not hold back, which is why I am surprised they are YA (even if they are based in high school). Not only that, but the parents of these teenagers in this book are still barely involved in the kids lives, and the parents who are (Matthew, in this case) are comfortable with these kinds of decisions made by those he considers his own children. It's dangerous territory for young adults, in my opinion.
All that said...
I still enjoyed this series quite a bit, when I thought of it outside of the high school realm. The characters are built well, and I think they react in a "real" way when faced with tragedy, heartache and loss (real for high schoolers, especially... over reacting, high emotions and miscommunications). There is a lot of self discovery in this book; I appreciated how much Dee, Andrew and Ashley grew up.
I agree with another review I read about the ending. I was expecting this book to wrap up the series as well, and was quite surprised when it didn't! What a cliffhanger ending!! I am anxiously awaiting the next book, which I know will be a while.

Great book, BUT....Demon?! What??
I've read the whole series and LOVE it, so I was so excited when I found this on audible. I decided to start with Opal, and am I the only one surprised that his name is pronounced Demon??!! I always assumed that since it's spelled Daemon, that it was pronounced Damon. I don't like that his name is Demon!!! That has bad connotations! Not like the hero at all! I absolutely hate that his name is Demon on audio! I won't listen to the rest of them because to me he's NOT a Demon!!! Just ruined it for me. What a horrible name for such a charming, funny, all around great guy. I will stick to the books.

Best one so far!!
I really didn't love book 2. Katie was such an idiot in that book that I didn't think I could continue. I took a break for a bit and finally decided to start Opal. It drags a bit in the beginning, but then it picks up in all aspects...action, romance, danger. I couldn't stop listening. I needed to know if they were finally going to get Beth. I loved Dawsons character and glad he wasn't just another Daemon. Still don't love the narrator. Her Daemon voice is just comical. He sounds like an idiot. But I love the series and will be starting book 4 immediately.

Oh man-- This series is must read!
This series is so fluffing good! I loved the characters bore that i can explain. They are so well developed. Jennifer has this way of extracting all the emotion from you that she can so that you feel wholly invested in the book. I . Loved . It. Ok. This was a good book. narrator was on point and so was the author. My only qualm is with this dumb little girl. She was doing good as far as teenage stupidity. but my my...the amount of pure stupidity in this book was three books worth. She withheld the truth before and it blew up in her face, you think she would learn from that....nope. she lets the same person who screwed her over close enough to screw her over again. At this point she deserves. I'm looking forward to the next book to see if she gets it.

Any additional comments?
This book kept me on the edge of my seat, it's full of intense intrigue. The tension builds and at times I found myself holding my breath! The ending was such a cliffhanger, I went right into the next book of the series!
